"Since the capture of Chenggong, China had started sending it's air force over the island of Taiwan. The Japanese at this point had entered the war to counter Chinese aggression on top of fear that the Chinese might start sending troops over to other parts of East Asia. With complete air superiority becoming inevitable, Japan and Taiwan send out their finest air forces to the island in response to the invasion."
