Space Radiator

This mod adds a new utility building called “Space Radiator”, that radiates heat off into space.



Current latest Version: 2.4.1




Features
New Building: Space Radiator
  • exchanges heat with the fluid pumped through it.
  • When the radiator panels are fully exposed to space, it will constantly emit heat radiation into space.
  • Still exchanges heat with environment (gasses, liquids) when not fully exposed to space, therefore it can be used as a very potent radiant pipe / heatsink.
  • Can be folded to protect against meteor impacts.
  • Material choice affects the heat capacity & thermal conductivity of the building
  • THE SCIENCE™ (Calculates the amount of energy radiated based on the Stefan–Boltzmann constant and and associated calculations, aka: higher temperature => higher cooling rate)
  • When it breaks, it will close to prevent fully destructing the radiator, however it needs to be repaired to work again.

DLC Features
  • adds a interior exclusive radiator that has to be placed attached to a side wall.

Requirements
  • Locked behind the research “Liquid Tuning”.
  • Requires 800 refined metal.
  • Material choice affects radiation rate and heat exchange rate with fluid pumped through.
  • does not require power
  • fully rotatable
  • can be folded by disabling the building either manually or via automation wire. (Disabling won’t stop fluids from getting pumped through.)
  • due to limitations set by the way the game loads, the radiator will refold itself on loading a save, during this time it’s vulnerable.

Radiators equalize temperature with the liquids pumped through them. If the radiation is at a higher temperature than the liquid, it will heat it.

Just noticed aluminum radiators adding significant temperature (more than 10 F) to Nectar in uninsulated pipes, which I didn't think should have been possible? This all occurred in tiles "open to space".
I did just turn on most of Ronivan's Legacy, minus my best guess of worldgen affecting options and related, is there a change in there that could have caused this change?

i wish it contacted fluids on all sides rather than only on the expanding side or however it works. testing showed liquid can exchange w/ it when poured on top of an unrotated radiator

@slein, i might be a bit late here, but if its idling even with no coolant being fed its already pre chilling itself down, i tend to try to have an automation setup(even a simple switch) to it before that to reduce the pre chill they get before the actual starts goes in.

Hi, I have a question: when the coolant starts running trough, the pipe on the output always breaks for the first couple of seconds.

I use insulated pipes and polluted water as coolant. I only let it run above 10 degrees C. The radiator is used in space.

Am I doing something stupid? I think this is behaviour from the base game, not from you mod. But I can't figure out where I'm going wrong.

If it's the coolant just freezing in the pipes, how can I prevent this?

so that would need a new type of building that is built from refined metal for the pipe heat transfer and a specifically selected radiator material with a high emissivity.
and that takes a lot of time for making concepts and developing, something that is currently in short supply for me (that "in a few days" was written before I was fully aware of the scope)

additionally, that little time I have for modding is split between multiple larger projects already, namely porting the Duplicity dupe editor into the game in DSS, finishing Oni Retro Edition and the always looming space stations that still need hundreds of hours until completion
