Ukraine Crisis 2022 - Strike of the Vampires (Scenario BETA 0.33)
20 / 21 Feb 2022
Playable Side: High Technology Aerospace Weapons Centre, supporting NATO and Ukraine vs Russia and Belarus.
Duration: 10 Hours
CMO Build 1147.45, DB 493

This is a scenario where the player must launch a pre-emptive strike against Russian Federation and Belarusian forces on the eve of war in Ukraine. While it is obviously inspired by current events, it also takes inspiration from several of the Dale Brown books, including those set in eastern Europe against the RF. Should the player’s strikes be successful, the worst of the RF strike on Ukraine will be blunted.
You are tasked with utilising state-of-the-art High Technology Aerospace Weapons Centre (HAWC aka Dreamland) platforms, including to EB-1s, EB-2s, EB-52s, AL-52s, several types of UCAVs and Orca XLUUVs to achieve the mission objectives. Your allies are Ukrainian and NATO forces; these assets are not under your control but will provide AAR and ISTAR support. Both sides will also take defensive actions if attacked by the RF.
HAWC’s pre-emptive strike mission objectives include RF / Belarusian airbases, aircraft, air defences, railway yards, FOBs, military bases, bridges, artillery and armour. You have ten hours to “micro” your forces through enemy airspace containing heavy concentrations of air defences and DCA CAPs while inflicting as much damage on military targets as possible. The quicker that the player acts, the easier the scenario should be. RF forces will react to your assault and, unless you suppress the enemy IADS as it activates, your powerful but out-numbered assets could become overwhelmed.
This scenario uses much of the ORBAT researched by Steam user “Prophetic Gentleman”; I thank him for creating those templates as without them this almost certainly wouldn’t have been possible. This is also the first scenario that I've used LUA in (albeit in a limited fashion) and I thank the CMO users on Discord and the Matrix forums for helping me directly and indirectly with that.
----------------------------------
Scenario Notes:
This is very much a “target rich” environment. Your forces, although powerful, don’t have the weaponry or the time to destroy every enemy unit. The player is to prioritise mission-critical objectives in order to beat the scenario (the HAWC briefing will give you more info on this). There are some missions set up, but mostly it is up to the player to decide your course of attack. Any HAWC reference points that are unlocked you may alter to your will. The locked ones are locked for a reason. Auto-Evasion starts on, but for certain units I suggest you turn that off. The RF may launch a massive attack on Ukraine in this scenario which will slow your machine down. The better you do as the player, the smaller and less effective that strike will be. The scenario will end should you reach the "Triumph" score limit.
As many of the weapons and aircraft in the Dale Brown books are not in CMO, I have adapted assets like B-1Bs, B-1Rs, B-2s, Have Raiders etc for the scenario. Those of you who have played my scenario Straits of Blood 20205 – Op SANDSTORM will be familiar with some of these assets. For example, as Radar Cross Sections (RCS) are not modifiable, your Vampires are not stealth aircraft but have access to powerful ECM and weapons are external pylons to offset this disadvantage. Many of your forces are already airborne and enroute to Polish border; I heavily recommend that you assess these forces in order to maximise your success.
This is a fairly large scenario so I recommend that the player turns off range rings for all but selected units.
----------------------------------
Note from 0.33 (22 Apr 22): I believe that the Steam version of CMO is now upto DB493. I've therefore updated the scenario to that standard. No further patches should be required at this time.
YOU WILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE IF YOUR DB IS 493 OR OLDER!
This is a Beta and therefore any feedback is welcome.
----------------------------------
General Note:
I started building this scenario almost a month ago, before President Putin launched his assault on Ukraine. Because of this, the dates, timings etc aren't accurate to the real conflict. I have to admit, I did not think this situation would escalate into a full invasion. I certainly hope the bloodshed comes to an end ASAP.

Negative, I've got no plans for that. I'm currently working on some US led Coalition vs PRC scenarios.

Is there a version to play the Russian Federation side?

There is a known bug where CMO freezes; according to the Matrix Forums, this has hopefully been fixed for the next build.

calibri font will work and be white on startup and black otherwise; times or arial font cause grey some kind of glitch.

Will you be putting this into the Community Scenario pack? You absolutely should. There's a forum post to submit this on the Matrix Forums, that way it goes into the Steam workshop CSP and the one hosted on the official CMO website.

BTW, I believe there is a bug in the current version of CMO that means that GBU-53 SDB IIs (Stormbreakers) are currently unable to track moving targets. Luckily, you've got plenty of SPEAR 3s available for that task, and most targets are stationary so this shouldn't cause too many dramas.
