The origin of this pattern is Scottish, more precisely from the Lowlands (between Glasgow and Edinburgh). Its English name is "houndstooth" and it would have been created relatively late compared to many other patterns since it dates from 1880. Scottish shepherds would have imagined and then woven this pattern.

It was Edward VIII, very well known for his immoderate taste for clothing, who would be at the origin of his popularity in the 1930s. You can imagine him then, he immediately became a rallying sign for the high society who will be its distinctive sign of wealth!
