The MN-03C was designed to be as small as possible, small enough to fit through a standard gate door.

At this size, sacrifices had to be made, and as such, the MN-03C is somewhat short of fuel and firepower.

Nonetheless, as it can be carried by almost any ship, and in large numbers aboard larger ships, the "Defender" class earns its name as a valuable short-range defensive ship, perfect for protecting space stations or supporting the AA capacity of larger ships.
