The guide is quite long,
so it takes a little time to read it,

General information:
The game is "active" and still being played.
Unfortunately, there is no permanent play on the servers.
We play coordinated on 2 public game days a week, Wednesday and Saturday.
The Wednesday game runs on American evenings, the Saturday game on Europe evenings.
The most players are in on Saturday, because the playtime is for both continents comfortable.
On Saturday it's evening in Europe & noon in America, so both can well play together. ;o)
Saturday is the main game.

General information:
The pick-up service will inform / ping you when a public game starts / runs.
We have 2 pick-up services at Dystopia.
One via Steam and one via Discord.

General information:
The service is located in the chat of a Dystopia community Steam group.
The chat is active and has over 300 members, but don't worry,
nothing is being written in the chat, except on the two match days, the chat is quiet.
(The name and links you will find in the next lines, but please read first)
The ping is a small pop-up window at the lower right corner at your desktop.

How to activate the Pick-up service:
Join the CHAT from the Steam group.
If you have joined the chat, you are automatically in the ping system.
You can change the setting, press the bell at top right and select:
"Every message" = Get every message.
"@online"            = Get only message from the moderator for the pubs.

The pings:
1.: Preannouncement (15 minutes before start)
2.: Start
3.: When 3v3
4.: When 20

The Dystopia Wiki / Dystopia Lore

Over time, the Dystopia gaming community has considered developing backstories,
including from the mappers of the maps themselves. :)

This information has all been stored in the Dystopia wiki page.
Unfortunately, the old Dystopia wiki page has gone offline.
But fortunately the page has been preserved/saved previously in an archival page! \o/

The Dystopia wiki page also contains a lot of other information!
It's a real contemporary testimony. ^^

How the web archive org site works:
You can change the saving times at the top of the screen.
The wiki page has been saved more often.
This means that different information advances may have been saved at different storage times.

Here you find information for recording internal ingame videos


Main informations 1:
- Dystopia (All Source games) has a internal ingame recording function!
- While you're ingame, go to the console and write the different commands (see below).
- The files are named: .dem (for "demo") explanation [www.endungen.de] (german)
- .dem is NOT a video format!!
- .dem records only the POSITIONS from players/bullets ON the map, not a "view"!!
- It only register the X/Y/Z coordinates (grid-points) inside the map as digits.
- Thats why you CAN'T VIEW it in a normal video player!!
- You can view the video only, when you have open the Dystopia main menu.
- Thats why you need a recording tool to record your screen when you play the .dem!

Main informations 2:
- It gives 2 different types of .dem files. (Thanks Bauxite!)
- .dem files from clients and .dem files from the game server - SourceTV. (STV)
- .dem's from clients only have the view of yourself, .dem's from server's from all players.

- Client video files are files that YOU recorded to your own computer.
  You can watch the video only from the perspective of your own view.

- SourceTV video files are files that were recorded by the server itself.
  The administrator of a server must have activated SourceTV.
  The administrator can then make the video files available.
  Ask your server admin if he has activated SourceTV and where you can download the files. ;D
  You can usually recognize SourceTV if the name is at the bottom of spectators.
  The administrator can also change the name, such as "SewertempleTV" etc.

- You have UNBELIEVABLE capabilities to edit!!
- With SourceTV video files you can manually view the perspective of EACH individual player! :D

- But mind, it is elaborate to create a good .dem video.

Commands:
- "playdemo test1" (for play a recorded video with the name test1)
- "hidepanel specmenu" (to get FREE VIEW!) (for SourceTV .dem's) (thanks Bauxite)

- "showpanel specmenu" (to get the blue bar back)

Navigate:
- Left click = change players
- Jump key = change view
-                  movement keys = Navigate in free flight.
- Hold left mouse + movement keys = Navigate in free flight.

Settings on the lower blue bar.
- At the right side you can select the view-settings.
- At the middle you can select the different players.

If you have problems watching a SourceTV .dem video, try this, 1:
- Open the player with demoui.
- Start the .dem file, and don't click on the blue bar settings until the players are spawned.
- Move speed slider from 100% to 500% until the player spawn.
- Close the player by clicking the X.
- Then you can select "First person view" and use arrows to switch players.

If you have problems watching a SourceTV .dem video, try this, 2:
If you jump to previous ticks,
the demo-player runs to the end once,
starts again from the beginning until he reach the selected point.
You then have to switch to another player once, change your view once,
and then you can choose your selected player and view again.

How do you set up SourceTV as admin on your server:
- SourceTV doesn't need to be installed, you already have it.
- Open your cfg file and just change to "tv_enable 1".
- Now you have a bot (aka sourcetv bot) that will record the demos to your server storage.

   Plugin that automatically kicks afk players to spectator after a certain time.
   I think 3 minutes is the best standard.

- Play soundtrack playlist
   A plugin that allows you to not only hear one song from the soundtrack when the map starts.
   Why? It sometimes happens that the atmosphere of the gaming experience deteriorates
   when there is no background music. Especially after the game has been going on for a while,    when everyone starts to get tired and less text is being exchanged.
   Then the background music keeps the atmosphere lively. :)

- Teamkill menu.
   I saw it back then in Dystopia, I remember only these 4 options:
   Forgive, not forgive, Glow (player glows),
   Freeze (player stands in a light reaching the sky, shape of a Christmas tree (tapered))

   * Sets a rocket in player, making him fly to the air until he explodes after reaching the ceiling.

General information:
- It gives over 100 community maps at Dystopia, and there are many good ones.
⠀It would be unfair if they were not played, because mappers work months/years on their maps.
⠀So that they can be played, the rotation consists of 50% officially and 50% community maps.
- For variety, I might exchange the community maps, maybe every month.
- In the middle of the rotation there will be also a phistball map.
- The used maps are maps for a medium quantity of players.
- If a map is voted in between that IS in the map cycle,
⠀then the next map after the voted map is played,

Here you find information about server sounds:
On my server there are several extra sounds.
The name of my server is "Sewertemple of the hidden Cybermonks".
I was the first to have a server with server sounds.
(other servers now also have server sounds) :-)

How to disable / deactivate the sounds:
Write i the chat these commands for deactivate or activate the sounds.
- !soundsoff or !soundson

How to use the sounds correctly:
- Don't use the sounds quickly several times in a row.
- Don't put the sounds on a key to play them often.
  It is annoying & a game event only happens once and not 5 times in a row in one second.
- Use the sounds only rarely so that it does not disturb or others feel harassed.
- It should only be as an occasional gift, and to have a greater playing experience... :)

What to do when someone harasses with the sounds?
- Do not be the one who is the troublemaker.
- Don't put yourself on the same low level and try to annoy him on the same way.
- Everyone should call the player by name and tell him that we does not like it.
  - Every player should tell it to him, the more the better.
  - We have to defend ourselves together, help and support.
  - We want to continue having fun together.
  - Maybe he doesn't know that he's bothering us.
  - Otherwise he will probably continue.
Let's treat troublemakers kindly too, maybe he really likes playing the game.

In the menu mask you have the possibility to deactivate the downloads of sounds:

  - Tab "Multiplayer"
    - Lower left "When a game server tries to download custom content to your computer"
      - Allow all custom files from server
      - Do not download custom sounds
      - Only allow map files
      - Do not download any custom files

You can simply take sounds from myinstants com or other sources as they are.
But, often many sounds have large volume differences
or needs cuts or change in passages according to your beliefs.
Then I started optimizing them, and here are my findings and procedures.

Important information for using Audacity for Dystopia:

- "WAV and/or MP3"
  Which files I can use? you can use both.
  But there are some limitations with MP3, read the links: MP3, WAV.
  Also importent to know: MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer III) is a lossy-compressed audio file format.

- "Sample rate"
  Is an important topic, because not all sample rates are supported in Dystopia.
  Dystopia use the "Source 1" game engine.
  Source 1 uses only 3 sample rates: 11025 Hz, 22050 Hz and 44100 Hz. (WAV, MP3)
  (files with other sample rates, such as 32000 Hz and 48000 Hz, will not play)
  (otherwise you will get this error message in console: "Invalid sample rate (48000) for sound")

- "Encoding/Bit rates" (WAV)
  Is an important topic, because not all bit rates are supported in Dystopia.
  Dystopia use the "Source 1" game engine.
  Source 1 uses only 3 bit rates for WAV: 16-bit PCM, 8-bit PCM and 4-bit ADPCM. (WAV)
- "Encoding/Bit rates" (MP3)
  Source 1 uses arbitrary bit rates for MP3, recommended minimum/maximums, read: MP3

- "Volume/level"
  What is the correct/best? (I'm not sure about that yet, I'm trying at the moment)
  Info: It's usually loud during the game, so it might have to be slightly louder than normal?
  The loudness depends sometimes a bit on the sound and is therefore a bit individual?
  The "Playback meter toolbar" shows you in colors the volume/levels during playback.
  It has an integrated "Clipping indicator", a red bar at the right end. (visible when over 0 dB)
  Anything above 0 dB will distort the sound. (and is really loud)

My storage structure:

My volume/level setting:
  I think between -9 and -3 is a good range. midpoint is -6. (+/-)
  So I try to stay at -9 / -6 at first try? (maybe sometimes -3?)

My export setting:
  WAV       = Best quality, no lossy-compression. (but the sources are mostly MP3) rofl
  MP3       = I don't hear any deterioration to WAV when 22050 & 16-bit* is used. (volume up)
  44100 Hz  = Best quality. At MP3, it's nt a big difference in size between 22050 and 44100.
  16-bit PCM = Because compared to 8-bit I can hear a clear noise when turn the volume up.
  (Audacity "Export Audio": MP3: "preset": "Standard, 170-210 kbps")


  22050 Hz  = 90% of my old used sounds have this sample rate, and they were good.

- "snd_restart": Deletes tones in a continuous loop. (Like spider grenade sound)
- "net_graph 3" (in console) activates Netgraph, "net_graph 0" deactivates it.

From my point of view is a good server when:
- Server is user friendly.
- Has all the maps on it that exist.
- Admin is friendly and approachable.
- Admin actively takes care of the server.
- Admin mods it for a better gaming experience.
- There are also good customer maps in the rotation. *
- Restarts the server in regular intervals to eliminate errors.

* Official & custom maps 50%-50%, custom maps are changed every month.
  The map rotation also includes a fun map and a Phistball map, also monthly change.

Motd
(Message of the day)

Here I explain how to implement the Motd add-on on your server.

What is the Motd?
- Motd is a splash screen which you see when you enter a server.
- It will only be shown to you once. (when you enter the server)
- It shows you information that the owner wants to give you.
- Via Motd many important information can be given to you.
- It can also be interactive with links to a subpage.
- It can be accessed at any time during the game.
- Motd is a source-internal add-on.

Functionality (Statement from an admin)
Motd uses only weblinks, no pictures directly.
The current Dystopia version doesn't support Motd.
Motd is also always a security risk, because a browser must be used.

This chapter provides explanations to:
- Protection of the admin
- Protection of the player
- Protection of the community
- Protection of the "good name" of the server.

The same rules of conduct apply as offline:
- Avoid emotionality, always remain objective.
- Do not insult the other person.

Sequence of admin actions at a conflict (in my opinion):
1.: Speak to the person, tell him that you are an admin,
     tell him the problem, ask him, listen to him what he says.
     (You can move him to spectator, to speak with him without distraction)
2.: Tell him that you can / will kick him if he doesn't change his behavior.
3.: If he doesn't give in, you can kick him.
4.: If he comes back and has not improved, tell that you will kick him again. (wait what he says)
     If he comes back and has not improved, tell him that you can ban him for a limited time.
5.: If he doesn't give in, you can kick him again. (wait what he says) (ban him for a limited time)
- Do not ban permanently. Everyone can change after a while! :)
- Do not ban without having completed steps 1-5!
- Best never ban, just kick him several times, always.
- Tell him that he can come back if he behaves properly.

Equality:
Both are humanly equal.

Conversation:
It applies freedom of opinion / utterance / speech. (to a healthy extent)

I think these are important statements:

Always be friendly and correct!

Do not misuse your role as admin!

Admins are / should be role models!
- If you're an admin, remember this!
- Are you speaking against an admin, remind him!

Always be fair! - Always be transparent!
- Do not act out of arrogance.
- Do not act out of egoism.

Think and be sure when you do an admin conflict action!

Remember you can be on same situation somewhere, sometime! Reflect! (generally)

When faced with an accusation,
it is better to take a step back and think about if the other person could be right!

Remember, you could still be wrong, even if you're currently 100% sure you're right!
- Causes could lie outside, e.g. on the server side, so technically. (Game, ping etc.)

Presumptions are not evidences!

Evidence is evidence that is available to all sides at all time!
- Challenge yourself and the other person to exchange evidence!
   Both parties should use: Console chat & .dem files. (ingame sources), screenshots.
- Challenge yourself and the other person to discuss it objectively.

Your emotions, prejudices, preferences, ideologies,
have no value here and now in conflict situations!

Don't look for excuses, face the discussion!
- Do not create distractions.

- Request a break in the discussion -to relax everyone -to think.
- Consult with someone at the same level or higher.
- The conflict must / should be solved.

- Think about the credibility of your position.
   You represent protection, rules, equality. (you have responsibility)
- Be a commendable/good admin to which the community like to look up to.

Always reflect on how the person in front of you must be feeling!

Admit when you are wrong! And say it!
- Sometimes it takes greatness to admit something.
- Hey, nobody is perfect. ;o)

- Act out of love and peace, be relaxed.

HALL OF SPRAYLOGOS

Maybe the hall of fame will helps:
- to find old forgotten player/buddys...
- to give inspiration for new spraylogos...
- to remember good times...
And hey, it's art! ^^

Still unlisted spraylogos:
It can be, that I eventually ask you
for taking a screenshotting with you and your spraylogo... ;)
otherwise you can also write to me...
(It's up to me to decide if I'll take it) (Only neutrals)

Process when I take screenshots:
- Spraylogo must be sprayed in a well-lit area.
- One picture with you and your spray, and one only with your spray close-up.
- Stand next to your spraylogo.
- When the writing is gone, I go invisible and take photos.
- Sometimes I still adjust the crosshair color.
- We can try different poses... ^^
- A hint, just look how the other pictures looks like... ;)
(And don't shoot the photographer before he say he is done!! -> Example)

Maybe there will be later a separation by:
- Gold rank (Dystopia affiliation)
- Silver rank (none-Dystopia affiliation)
