US NAVY Aegis cruiser CG-47 USS Ticonderoga floating building, model and texture by WTigerTw. USS Ticonderoga is the lead ship of the mighty Ticonderoga class Aegis cruiser. With the first ever Aegis combat system, Ticonderoga class serves as the command center of the carrier battle group of US Navy to defend all types of threat from anywhere and at anytime. The AN/SPY-1 radar along with all other sensors and the Aegis combat system allow the ship to process multiple threats at the same time and engage tens or hundreds of incoming missiles attack. The first five ships of the class use 2x MK26 missile launchers, although still very capable but the later version of the class with the MK41 VLS has even better firing rate and missile capacity, so the first five ships has been retired early by US Navy since 2004 and being replaced using the newer version 's ship and the Arleigh-Burke class Aegis destroyer.
