-----Breif history of Steam Locomotives Class D51, D61-----

Most famous steam locomotive in Japan. The reasons are easy-to-use and mass-product.
Former class D50 was excellent locomotive, but long and heavy.
Class D51 was designed to improve spec including them above.
Soon after launch, it became wartime, so over 1,100 locomotives were built.
So they could be seen in all in Japan, and got name recognition as 'Pronoun of steam locomotives'.

Of cause, they were excess production, some of them were converted into class C61 after war.
And same as class D60, few of them were converted into class D61, for using low class lines.

There are various shape of preserved D51 in all in Japan.
