That was the Marne.

The two basic games in The Marne allow two players to recreate the historical situations. In the Pursuit Situation, the Franco-British armies retreat and the Germans attempt to engage and destroy the fleeing Allies. In the Counter-Attack Situation, the Allied Armies begin intact, about to turn on their pursuers. Playing the same side in both games provides two completely contrasting game experiences. In the Pursuit Situation the Allied problem is escape. In the Counter-Attack Situation, the German finds himself hard-pressed to hold his ground.

The Marne game system is one of the "cleanest" in SPI games. The map is printed on high quality cardstock in blue and black tints. The die-cut counters represent all units participating in the actual battle. Four optional Order of Battle variants cover German forces which could have reached the Marne but were diverted. Set-up time has been reduced to five minutes and rules have been made as clear as possible."
