Preface
It's Dec 2021 now, and I can tell the developers stopped releasing new content since end 2019.
However I still decided to spend a whole night to write this.
I've played this game since it was early release, and I felt bored a few times, recycled whole farm and quit the game a few times.
But recently when I picked it up again with my girlfriend, it's still fun.
Hope everyone enjoy it.
Summary
This guide only needs 8 farmhands for ponds and animals supply.
I call them pond-farmhand and animal-farmhand respectively.
Each pond-farmhand will be in charge of 3,841 tiles.
Each animal-farmhand will be in charge of 741 tiles.
Meanwhile they will also produced all primary resources at a fixed rate without any human intervention. (except honey, juice and cheese)
All quest items involving ponds will be auto-harvested.
And quests involving animals will be partially auto-harvested.
Disclaimer
This plan would require mostly flat terrain.
You can either start a farm with flat terrain (which might give you ~10% less harvest income), or edit game file (referring to other posts)
https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1557263788
DLC is not a must but good to have, since they provide 2 useful trees and lots of decoration items.
Map Basic
Let's start with simple math.
At the beginning of a new farm, everyone receives a land.
Every land consists of 40 x 20 = 800 tiles.
After unlocking every pieces of lands, everyone will have be 7 * 7 = 49 lands.
So in total, maximum dimension of a farm will be 280 * 140 = 39200(not important) tiles.
Farmhand Basic
Farmhand is expensive, each costing 2 tickets per hour. And without any DLC, you can only rely on 4 houses to cook Fish Curry as ticket supply.
Each farmhand by design only look after 13 * 13 = 169 tiles. And that's far not enough.
If you only put 1 farmhand for 169 tiles, most of their time will be idle. As a boss, the last thing you want to see is your worker standing there and doing nothing.

Luckily, tiles for ponds and animals can be connected.
As long as one tile is within a farmhand's territory, he/she can harvest all fish, or feed all animals to all tiles extended from that single piece of tile.
Having that in mind, let's go straight to the design.
Ponds Planning
The original idea comes from another guide written in Chinese.
https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1803336549
I modified it for the variety of fish and auto-completion of pond quest.

We have about 26 types of fish in total.
So if 1 pond-farmhand looks after 16, all variety can be easily satisfied with 2 pond-farmhands.

I will let the image speaks for itself.
As we see, every pond-farmhand's territory is a 59 * 59 = 3,841 tiles.
And if you put it at the corner of the map, the extra 1 tiles is for road/train rails or any forms of perimeter.
Remember each land is 40 x 20? In this case each pond-farmhand's territory is 1.5 lands exactly

Each type of fish occupies 23 * 9 = 207 tiles.
You can choose to separate them by fences (like what I do), but do remember to leave a connected point as highlighted in red from above image.
The other red point is the entry point, our farmhand need to access all fish from there.

Now let's look at the second pond-farmhand.
Quite similar, we added another 8 types of fish.
Except for region ABCD.
Certain fish cannot be grouped together referring to https://farmtogether.fandom.com/wiki/Ponds
Therefore, my region A are Piranhas and Anglerfish, region B are Hammerhead Sharks and Narwhal (event fish).
Region C & D are Red Sea Bream.
You will see soon enough, for my other 2 pond-farmhands, all they have are just Red Sea Bream because it's simply the fish with most $output per unit time.

Now let's finish the other 2 pond-farmhands.
As a result, everything is nicely aligned. And it leaves 2 lands in the middle.
I used one for having a beach, and built a train station for beach tourists. And another land for farming crops.
Animal Planning
With the conneced-tiles idea in mind, I have seen other farms feeding all animals with 1 farmhand.
All it need is 6 or 7 connected spaces, each with 1 tile in farmhand's territory and viola.

But for me, I am looking for not just feeding all animals, but also harvesting resources automatically.
Among all types of resources, milk and eggs are something trees cannot produce, so the 4 animal-farmhands I have here, made up a milk farm with some eggs output.
Again I will let the picture speaks for itself.

There are slightly less than 64 types of animals.
Each animal-farmhand will look after about 16 types of animals.
Each of the territories is 19 * 39. Again 1 tile for roads or perimeter.
Most kinds of the animals will have 42 tiles, all auto-feed, 3 tiles under farmhand's territory while the rest need to harvest manually.
For those slots surrounding farmhand, it belongs to milk producers (cows & goat) and egg producers (chicken, ducklings etc). It's really up to you to put pigs (for mushroom) or rabbits (for vegetable) but I will come to this later at "Resource Planning" section.
For the spaces at each corner, which might have 64 or 54 tiles, I put horses with longest harvesting time, or deers.
Trees Planning
From now on is really up to individuals.
In my case, Again I like the idea of building everything fit to the exact size of a land (divisible by 20 x 40)
And it also happends that, taking away those trees I need for certain resources (which I put under pond-farmhand), remaining trees are 39 types in total. (without DLC trees and event trees)
So this part, inclucding all roads, takes up 6 lands in total. (120 * 40)
Flowers Planning
I havn't unlocked all the flowers, but similar idea.
For each flower I have 9 * 9 = 81 tiles. With +1 for road, it makes up to 10 tiles.
And vertically, each land can support 4 types of flowers aligned horizontally.
Feel free to fill up any vacancy with Red Barn, or any decorations.
Resources Planning
With that, we have finished building all harvestables.
Let's wrap up with all resources planning.
There are 16 types of resources in total.

First let's look at 4 types of special resource.
  • Honey is something not worthy of using a farmhand because of 24 hrs harvest time. So you need a space dedicated for beehive, except relying purely on nugget exchange.
  • Juice and cheese need manual processing or nugget exchange.
  • Nuggets will be auto-harvested with a small odds when your farmhands harvest

For other 12 types of primary resources, the most convenient ways of obtaining them are as below:
  • Grape: Using Tree Blackthorn (From DLC), harvest every 2 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Nuts: Using Tree Cypress, harvest every 2 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Cereal: Using Tree Rice, harvest every 2 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Mushroom: Using Tree Foxfire Tree(From DLC), harvest every 4 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Mushroom alternative: Using Animal Landrace Pig, harvest every ~2 seasons (35mins) under a pond-farmhand.
  • Vegetable: Using Tree Cacao, harvest every 2 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Fabric: Using Tree Mulberry, harvest every 2 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Fruits: Using Tree Tamarind / Apply / Mango, harvest every 4 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Spice: Using Tree Cinnamon, harvest every 4 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Flower: Using Tree Cactus, harvest every 3 seasons under a pond-farmhand.
  • Fish: You have tons of them.
  • Eggs: Using chicken/ducks from animal-farmhand.
  • Milk: Using cow/goats from animal-farmhand.

Currencies
There are thousands of method to obtain currencies.
Just have in mind that the most efficient way of getting ticket is by cooking Curry Fish at every house (that's also one reason for having a milk farm)
DLC & Decorations
Again it's really up to you.
With my planning, there are still tons of spaces for decoration and having fun!

Yes to @Maui's comment. At early stage you should be focusing on earning money and diamond, unlock all the lands first. After that you can use "recycle whole farm" and start planning properly.

It doesn't feel like this is something to keep in mind while just starting, is it? I don't have lots of money yet so keeping this planning guide in mind would not be helpful for me I think. Does it?
