Shooter: Revived Playtest (addon 1/3)

Stand still. Don't think. Shoot. Revive. Shooter: Revived is a recreation of Valve’s cancelled Shooter project, as revealed in The Final Hours of Half-Life: Alyx. Originally developed in Unity and intended for 2016's The Lab, Shooter was designed as a quick-fire VR shooting gallery set in a holographic City 17, featuring Combine soldiers, Striders, Breencasts, and plenty of frantic reloading. The mini-game had 6 levels (Puzzle, Corridor, Window, Doorway, Pillar, and Ducking) plus a shooting range. Unfortunately, there is no playable build accessible to us mere-mortals. Instead, thanks to the Final Hours of Half-Life Alyx, we have a handful of screenshots and a short clip of footage from two levels (Pillar and Ducking) showing the basic mechanics. In 2020, a team of modders set out to rebuild Shooter in Source 2 using Half-Life: Alyx as a foundation. Over time, the project grew with new levels, new enemies, new ideas and possibly too much ambition.... But by the end of 2021, we had a playable slice of what the full experience might have been which was shared with some trusted playtesters. But then real-life took over, other projects took priority... the usual story! And by mid-2022, the project ground to a halt. This release is that playtest build from 2021: roughly 75% of the intended content, polished enough to be fun but still carrying a few quirks. Early players praised the environments and combat flow, noticed their aim improving as they played. They also found a few soft locks and enemies who preferred hiding to fighting. But it is what it is! Think of this as part mod, part time capsule, part “what-if” for Half-Life history. Enjoy Shooter: Revived.
