GE U36B and U36C (LEGACY)

Another boat out of the shops, here is the other U-boat, the GE U36C and U36B.

The U36B first arrived in 1969 to no fanfare as the last 4-axle variant of the U boat range, with 125 units made, mostly for the Seaboard Coast Line and 13 more for the Seaboard-trackage running AutoTrain, and 4 leftovers going to Conrail, during the time when railroads were slowly losing interest in high horsepower designs and wwith the oil crisis of 1973. The U36B suffered from wheel adhesion due to the constant wheelshlip resulting in the U-boats being cancelled and the design wouldn't be continued until the Dash 7's.

The U36C's were introduced later in 1971 with 238 units made with the units being split between the Santa Fe and N De M (classified as U36CG's), and others for roads like Milwaukee Road, Erie Lackawana and the Clinchfield. The U36C's were the most powerful units in the range (not counting the U50 and U50Cs since they were one offs) but came too late into the market. Only one U36B has survived, CSX #7763 at the Lake Shore Railway Museum in Pennsylvania. Its assumed that none of the U36C's survived (afaik).
