Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island, located at the mouth of Gulf St Vincent and separated from mainland Australia by Investigator Strait and Backstairs Passage. Only accessible via ferry, the island is most well-known as a tourist destination and the world's only population of purebreed ligurian honeybees.

Will you import electricity from the mainland via the undersea cables at Backstairs Passage, or be self-sufficient? Will you rely on the historical industries of agriculture and tourism, or develop an industrial base?

Though there are no real-life mineral deposits on KI, coal, bauxite and uranium has been added as a stand-in for the mineral resources on the mainland. The Yorck peninsula is known for it's historical copper mining towns, so iron has also been added as a substitute. There is no oil on the map, so you will need to import it.

Apologies if the mountainous areas seem extreme, I've tried to mellow them out as best I can but that's not easy at a 10:1 scale. (The real-life KI is 145 kilometres from tip to tip)

Fun fact: the tiny strip of land that connects the east and west sides of the island is less than a kilometer wide at its narrowest point.
