Nostromo

Solo game using only a deck of 54 cards.

You are Ellen Ripley, the last survivor of the spaceship Nostromo. There is an Alien onboard hunting you and you must finish few things before abandoning the ship.
In this solo game you have to finish 3 Missions on 3 different Locations to win. Game is consistent of 54 cards split into:
- Mission Items
- Special items
- Locations (Missions)
- Close Call cards
- Alien cards
- Main Character (Ellen Ripley)
Game setup
Normal game – Shuffle all Mission Items, Special Items, 1 Alien and 6 Close Call cards into one deck which we will call Nostromo deck from now on. The rest of the Alien cards are set aside.
Shuffle Location cards and place them spaced out in a column or row fashion. While setting Locations down, flip every second card, or randomize them as you see fit (you may choose the sides you wish to play with). Set the Main Character on the Location of your choice (by placing her near or on top of the Location card). Be sure that the side with the green heartbeats is face up – Ellen Ripley is not wounded. You may start the game.
Hard game – Leave all 8 Close Call cards in the Nostromo deck.
Game Turn and Objective
Each turn you can do one of the actions from the Main Character card. Those actions are:
- Move then draw one card
- Move then use one cards
- Draw two cards
You always draw cards from the Nostromo deck.
Your objective is to collect enough Mission Items for 3 Missions written on Location cards. If you manage to do that before the Nostromo deck runs out, or the Main character dies, you win the game.
Each card you draw goes into your hand. Your hand size is 4, so if you have to take more cards, you have to discard some from your hand. Discarded cards go out of the game.
When moving your character moves from one adjacent Location to another. If you are at the end of the column or row, you may ‘wrap around’ by moving from the rightmost to the leftmost Location (or from the bottom to the top if you set your game in a column fashion).
You always use cards from your hand. In case of the Mission Items, just place them near the Location. In case of the Special Items, most of them are discarded out of the game one used.
Close Call cards
If you draw a Close Call card follow the instructions from it and resolve its effects. If you drew more cards beside the Close Call card you may discard one of them to cancel one Close Call card. In that case Close Call goes out of the game without applying penalties to the player.
Close Call card will instruct player to move to specific Location, thwarting the normal movement rule. You may have to flip the named Location to the other side. If there are any Missions Items that have been already used on that Location (Mission), they must be shuffled back into the Nostromo deck before flipping the Location card to a second side.
If by any chance you drew two Close Call cards that you can’t cancel, you may choose which one of them to resolve, while the other is shuffled back into the Nostromo deck. If the card demands that you shuffle one Alien into the Nostromo deck and there isn’t any left, you skip that part of the card effect.
Alien cards
Alien cards have their own effects which can’t be canceled by cards that were draw that turn. When Alien wounds the Main character it goes back into the Nostromo deck.
If Wounded Main Character has to suffer another wound, she dies instantly and game ends. In case you draw more than one Alien card during the same turn, you resolve all of them.
Special Items
Some Special Items like the Prod Stick and the Flamethrower can be attached to the Main Character. They can be used at any time and they are considered to be in your hand, but they do not count toward your hand limit. Once used, they are discarded like other item cards.

Completing the Mission (on Location card)
As you use Mission Items to fill the list written on the Location cards, place them near those Locations to track the progress. When you have all the items from the list you take that Location card into your possession (set it aside) and shuffle half of the Mission Items (rounded down) into the Nostromo deck. The rest is discarded out of the game.
If any Special Item was used to fulfill Mission objectives, they are discarded out of the game.
