After WCW closed, Jimmy Yang joined the WWF and was assigned to their development territory, the Heartland Wrestling Association. He was released shortly after and had short runs with AJPW and TNA before returning to the WWE.

Yang got his start on the WWE main roster in 2003 as Akio. He began teaming up with Sakoda as Kyo Dai and backed up Tajiri. He left the company in 2005 and wrestled for Ring of Honor briefly before returning to the WWE as a cowboy.
