Overview
Inspired by Onkeen's Handmade Wooden Dowels Mod, last updated in 2017 for build 36; this mod has been updated for 2021, build 41.55+ and has a few additional updates.

EDIT:

Currently, Onkeen's mod has been updated for build 41 proper, and he has done an amazing job. You should check this version out as he has added some of the features requested for my mod too. We may keep separate branches (I already see some vision differences :P)

Differences from Onkeen's Handmade Wooden Dowels Mod

* Changed Weight of Dowels from 0.04 to 0.01 to match nails
* Added dynamic saw type which should allow for all items with new Item Categories listed as 'Saw' to be used to create dowels ('future proof').
* Added support for Stone Knife/Machete/Meat Cleaver for Dowel Crafting where needed
* Added recipe for dowels to be crafted from sturdy sticks.
* Removed ability to craft dowels with screwdriver (holes maybe, dowels themselves? no.)
* Noiseworks sound update implemented.
* Set resource cost and XP gain per construction object back to vanilla levels.
* Added support for multi stage build (all 3 stages) for Windows/Door Frames/Walls
* Added support for ImprovedBuildMenu Mod
* Added support for BetterSorting Mod

Mod Compatibility
Currently, here is the list of mods that, if installed, will have different effects.
* ImprovedBuildMenu (Build 41)
- Uses ImprovedBuildMenu format and recipes
* BetterSorting
- Changes Wood Dowel item category to 'Crafting - Carpentry'

NOTE: Previously, there were sub-mods that were installed alongside this mod. This is no longer necessary as I have implemented a better logical implementation to detect what mods are installed and use the correct build menu and item categories as needed.

if you do figure out how, please share, as that was one drawback which i have long wished would get fixed. a good amount of the in-world builds don't seem to be super friendly with dowels sadly, not sure if it is a system issue, a mod choice, or something else, but has always bugged me too

Any way to barricade using dowels instead of nails? If so I can't seem to figure it out.

as someone commented below building fences triggers a ton of errors for me as well. Too bad I loved this mod.

Hey, I just noticed and thought I would bring it to your attention that your mod id and workshop id are swapped around. I don't know if that would cause errors loading the mod in like that but I thought I should let you know just in case. Love the mod btw :)

i will say that (as an irl user of dowels) screwdrivers can indeed make a dowel, in particular you want a flathead and the dowel length to have the end grain at the small face. then, in that case you can use it much like a very very crude chisel. an actual chisel would make better dowels quicker, easier, and save more scrap, but a screwdriver will work. a Philips head or star/square head could be used, but would be even more work and waste. and any screwdriver can help make the hole, although not the ideal tool, generally a chisel set is the ideal tool short of maybe power tools or a hand drill. axes are also a decent option for the dowel itself
