Frenchie #0761 has created website to host custom content. This website is one of the main outlet for mods, levels, and custom textures besides Discord. You can summit you're own maps by email.

The site hasn't been updated in a while... What I understand is the host (Frenchie) has been very busy and is planning on updating the site in the future. They don't have time at the moment.

1. Install the Modloader
2. Download the latest version of CruS:O
3. Extract the CruS:O into your mods folder
4. Launch the game.

*Note: It's the same way you install other mods. Other mods are incompatible with Crus:O. For LAN lobbies, a VPN is recommended.

*Personal Note: I never played this mod before. But I heard positive about this mod.

A new VR mod got released as of 3/3/23, while in BETA release, it is very stable mod. This mod was created by teddybear082 #5496. First attempted to make CruS run in VR by MrGlockenspiel #6625. This also add a bunch of mods that also fixes a bunch of bugs and errors that are present in the game.

Only use this mod on an official purchased version of the game.

**This is also in an BETA (TESTING) STATE!!! Back up EVERYTHING Cruelty Squad associated before trying this version of the modloader**

## PRELIMINARY STEPS:
- If you are running Cruelty Squad for the first time, run the game once first just to make sure all directories are created and then exit out.

- If you have installed Cruelty Squad before and you have used any mods / modloaders before, you must return to a "clean" state of the game, otherwise this is very likely not to work.

- Make sure the game is installed in the same directory as your Windows Powershell. For me, installing in my normal default Steam directory in Program Files worked fine. Some have had success on other drives, but if it fails, this may be the issue.

- Get more info on controls, known issues, performance tips and credits on the GitHub readme: Github[github.com]

Installer:
1. ~~Download the v0.1-VR-beta release in this repo. Link here: Download v.1.0-beta CruSVR Mod[github.com]

This build currently uses a modification of crustyrashky and disco0's newer install script method that was developed for the flatscreen game. Unzip the release and copy the folder this README is in to your game folder, it should look something like this:





2. Run install_modloader.bat

3. Check to see if your game directory now has an override.cfg, libgodot_openxr.dll and openxr_loader.dll next to the crueltysquad.exe and crueltysquad.pck (If so, that is a good sign, as this installer copies those files there).

4. Start the game (it may crash the first time due to lack of the godot-xr-tools asset); if you now have a mods folder under %appdata%\Godot\app_userdata\Cruelty Squad\ it worked (as an example, I find this folder in my personal install by navigating to Windows(C:)\Users[my windows user profile name]\AppData\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\Cruelty Squad\mods).

5. Now go to that mods folder and copy the "cs-vr-mod-vr-files" folder, "cs-vr-mod-xr-tools" folder, and "cs-scripts-vr-mod" folder from this folder to the 'mods' folder.

6. Run the crueltysquad.exe again with your VR headset on and active / running and the main scene should populate into your VR headset if all has gone well. If it crashes the first time to desktop, run it again, sometimes it takes THREE times running the .exe for everything to take effect. More than that, and there's a problem.

Not really required but it's good to do. To prevent corruption while messing with Cruelty Squad. I'll recommend this for safe keeping.

1. On your search bar type %AppData%, then press enter. That will result you to the Roaming folder.

2. Open the Godot Folder. Open the app_userdata and open the Cruelty Squad folder.


3. Copy and paste the savegame.save somewhere safe. You cam make thousands of these files if you wanted too.

As of 8/21/25...
The latest Modloader (0.2.4) installs the same as previous versions.

1. Go to your Steam Library and right click and open Properties... Select "Installed Files "and click on the browse. A folder of Cruelty Squad internals will appear. Open your Modloader ZIP file and extract the ZIP file in your Cruelty Squad's game files




2. Run the _install_modloader.bat file in your CruS folder.


3. Wait until the batch file is completed.


4. Run the game, Exit the game, and then a mods folder will appear in your user_appdata Cruelty Squad folder. Now you're ready for the ModBase.

As of 8/21/25...
Installing the MODBASE (0.5.0) is the same as last time.

1. Open your Modbase ZIP folder. Find your Cruelty Squad userdata folders. Go to your taskbar/search bar and type, %appdata%

Find Godot folder.

Open app_userdata folder. Find the Cruelty Squad folder

Once opened, you should be able to locate a mods folder.

C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\Cruelty Squad\mods for reference...

*Note: your levels folder won't appear until you install the modbase and open up the game.



2. Open your mods folder and export your latest Modbase folder into your mods folder.



3. Open Cruelty Squad. On the left hand corner will indicate how many mods and the version of the Modloader is installed. A levels folder will be created after exiting the game.



You're all set! Enjoy!

2. Open Cruelty Squad and the level should appear. An arrow will also appear if you add more than one map.




As of 8/21/25...
Ever since the Modbase and Loader has been updated. The issue regarding how many maps you can play at once has been fixed. No extra mods require. Enjoy!

I finally realized what the issue for some maps not loading in. Especially, some with the mapbase-v0.0.3. That because people are installing the mods improperly. It took me about a year and a half to finally realize.

I don't know why disk0__ didn't create a folder for the mod. This probably confused a lot of people. I thought people would of understand how to install mods correctly. GUESS NOT! But do not fret. I am here to show you.

ALWAYS READ THE READMES! PLEASE!

1. Install the mod.


2. Open the Zip Folder and drag out the folder. Into the mods folder.


That's it.

But, with the mapbase-0.0.3v (or modded content that contains a folder for your mod.)

Create an empty folder (not .zip or .rar). Open the modded content file (ZIP file) and drag both the mod zip folder and text doc into your empty folder. Renamed the folder to the modded content file.



If that doesn't work, remove some of the custom maps. Becuase some are bigger and the modbase does not like bigger with extra maps laying around.

You probably don't have to worry about this that much. Since nobody uses mapbase-0.0.3v and or have to create a folder for their mods.

Most of 0.5.0 Modbase issues have been resolved. It later turns out that most of the environmental issues were caused by corrupted scripts. It's still an issue, but and easy fix.

- Night and Storm environments will break the fog, lighting and glows to custom levels It. How to fix it is by restarting the game.
*This is likely dude to a corrupted Night_Cycle and Global_Light script after exporting the debug map file. This issue can be easily fixed by map makers.

- Why do the enemies not move?
*After some minor updates to CruS, some of the levels NavMesh is completely screwed up. This is likely switching to different version of Godot. I believe the current version is Godot 3.5 while other maps were made with previous build. As I know Godot 3.5 has changed the NavMesh at some point.

- _____ level won't load.
*This can happened for three reasons:
1. The map is broken. How? Well, some map makers my have mistakenly used a broken test grunt enemy instead of using the default grunt. Causing the level to crash. I have no idea why this one grunt crashes the game.
2. The level is too big. This is dependent on computer, Godot version, and the level itself. (Avoid playing Golf Resort. It does not work at all and you're not missing much.)
3. If it's modded map, there's a possibility that something made it crash. Thats more of a Dev issue.

1. Go on your Steam library, right click Cruelty Squad and go to properties.


2. Go to local files and click on Verify integrity of game files.


3. Wait until it's done and boom uninstalled.

If you need play testers then comment in the Modification Discord and or if you got friends that plays and also have the base installed. I'll also post your a screenshot of the map and the thumbnail. But don't spam or be a ♥♥♥♥ about it.

As of 8/23/25...
It seems that there has been more mods and maps makers in a while. Making legit mods have never been so easier especially with the CruS ModPacker Addon. Learn some basic GDScripting and you can create almost anything. Besides weapons... yeah, no one wants touch that mess. There are custom implants, enemies, and vehicles!

If you're having trouble installing any of these files, please read the readme files or go to the mod's page and follow the instructions. If that doesn't work, go to the Cruelty Squad discord modification channel and ask for help. Don't ask here because I may or may not respond or not sure what is causing your problems.

There will never be an official workshop EVER! Since this is Consumer Softproducts (Ville Kallio's) first ever game. The game is unoptimized as hell and the whole game code is, "it just works." Hell, Ville didn't know how to add basic achievements until the recent update. He's not an export programmer, so don't expect something like a workshop for this game.

If you want more levels than here, go to the Custom Content website. If you want to make levels then read and try to understand my messy guide. It's not the greatest and needs a whole redo. Almost everything on that guide is outdated and needs to get updated.
