USS Missouri (BB-63)

Here is the USS Missouri, an Iowa-class Battleship that served with the US Navy during WW2, the Korean War, and the Persian Gulf.

She was the 3rd Iowa-class battleship, and was named after the US state of Missouri. During WW2, she participated in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, as well as shelling the Japanese coast. When WW2 ended, both Missouri and her sister Iowa, sailed into Tokyo Bay, where the Japanese signed the Instrument of Surrender on board her. She then went on to serve in the Korean War in the 1950s. She was decommissioned in 1955, but was modernized in 1984 as part of the 600-ship Navy plan, and participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Missouri was the last battleship commissioned by the US Navy, and received 11 battle stars for her 48 years of service. She was finally decommissioned in 1992, and was struck from the Naval Register in 1995. In 1998, she was donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association and became a museum ship at Pearl Harbor, where you can see her today!
