EFE AEL [Update Pending]

Notice, March 2024: An update for this mod is planned, and will bring it up to current standards. Please note that an estimated date cannot be given, since I can only work on mods in my free time. Thank you for your understanding.

AEL, Automotor Eléctrico Local (Local Electric Multiple Unit), built by Kawasaki and Hitachi for EFE in 1972. 8 4-car units where built in total (AEL 31-38). It was initially used in short and medium distance services to and from Santiago, Valparaiso and Concepcion. From 1990 to 2007, they were used in the Metrotren service, and were later reassigned to Biotren services in 2001, where the last units served until 2012, when they were finally retired. As of 2021, 1 unit (AEL-37) is in storage, awaiting restoration.

Did you know? These trains were exported by trading company Nissho Iwai, which is commonly mistaken as the manufacturer. This also applies to the AEZ model.
