1981 Piper Mountain Goat 4WD

The 1981 Mountain Goat, a rugged short wheelbase utility vehicle built on Piper's AL-100 light truck frame, with an almost entirely redesigned body and interior compared to the original model when introduced in 1972. Powered by a standard 318 c.i.d V8, and coupled to the optional 4-speed manual transmission (3-speed manual standard, 3-speed automatic optional), this truck sends all its power through a full-time 4WD transfer case to the front and rear solid axles, both leaf sprung. To stop the Mountain Goat, it is equipped with power assisted front disc brakes as standard equipment, and a standard rear drum setup as opposed to the 4-wheel manual drum brake setup standard on 1972 models. Another change from its introduction is a solidly fixed steel roof with extra large super-panorama rear side windows replacing the original removable steel roof on earlier models. A Different grille and headlight assembly, larger taillights, and more modern interior with front bucket seats accompany the truck into the 1980s, along with the standard Piper tough-truck durability and reliability you can expect in any Piper Light-Line truck
