Better Rome

A mod that makes forming and playing as the Roman Empire a lot more fun.

The Roman Empire now has missions and unique government reforms!

This mod makes it easier to form the Roman Empire (and Roman Republic), so you will be able to form it sooner than you normally would.

Byzantium can form Rome easier than any other nation, requiring roughly equivalent to owning The Balkans, Anatolia, The Levant and Egypt. If the HRE exists, then owning all of Italy is also required.


If you form the Roman Empire as a monarchy you will be able to use the Imperial Government reform, which gives lots of bonuses that can be seen in the images above.

If you form Rome as a republic, the country will be renamed to Roman Republic instead of Roman Empire. Forming the Roman Republic also gives you access to the Republic Government reform, and its bonuses can also be seen in the images above.


The missions gives you claims all over the historical Roman borders, as well as beyond. They also give some bonuses like a colonist after restoring rule over Hispania, cheaper Culture Conversion cost in Italy, Egyptian Grain and many more.


After converting enough provinces to Roman culture, provinces of Romance culture (French, Iberian, Romanian, Italian) will slowly convert to a Roman culture by themselves.
Iberian: Hispano-Romance
French: Franco-Romance
Romanian: Dacio-Romance
Italian: Roman


After reconquering Anatolia, Egypt and Armenia, it is possible to resettle Greeks in Anatolia.


For owners of the Leviathan DLC, the Colosseum and the Theodosian Walls have also been added giving some nice bonuses.

Varangian Guard
+5% Discipline
Only available as Byzantium (or as Rome if formed by Byzantium)
200 Development required to unlock this mercenary company

Praetorian Guard
+10% Discipline
Only available as Rome
