EpsTweak for Horses

EpsTweak is a series of small mods that tweak the balance of Civ 6. Rather than put all of them into one hefty package, I've split them into small fragments to allow you to make your own custom rulesets.


Okay, this one isn't quite something I came up with myself. Nor do I think it's especially necessary. But, a multiplayer group that I'm watching suggested the idea of obsolete strategic resources becoming luxuries in the late-game. The idea was interesting enough that I went "F it, why not?"

Currently, the game has no use for Horses or Niter past a certain point in the tech tree, but Niter is addressed by one of my other modules - the EpsTweak for Support Units - which lets you keep spending it on Demolition Crews. That leaves only Horses, which become obsolete when you unlock Helicopters at Synthetic Materials. So this mod adds an extra effect to Professional Sports: "Pastures over Horses provide an Amenity."

I liked this idea enough that I implemented it. The effect is on Professional Sports now.

I like the idea, and I understand that the requirement being Synthetic Materials is to give them a use once helicopters are unlocked, but what do you think about it being tied to Profession Sports instead? It's another Atomic era unlock (albeit a civic instead of a technology), but reflects the sport of horse riding I think in a neat way, and also comes at the same time as other amenity providers in Aquatics Centres and Stadiums. Thoughts?

Subscribed. Honestly, at the point helicopters start being seen, horses really become a luxury item in those societies. Yes, they are still used as a resource, but definitely not militarily though in any significance.

This makes sense, at least in my pea brain. :-)
