In Solasta, you can craft various items: weapons, armor, poisons, ammunition for bows and crossbows, potions, and scrolls. To successfully craft something, you will need to meet certain requirements.

• Learn a recipe by reading a proper crafting manual. Those can be found in containers around the world or bought from traders. Some recipes are also included in the character starting gear.
  
• Have a proper crafting kit in your inventory. There are 5 of those:
  
  1. Herbalism Kit allows crafting potions;
     
  2. Smith’s Tools allow crafting various arrows and bolts;
     
  3. Poisoner’s Kit allows crafting poisons and poisoned ammunition;
     
  4. Scrolls Kit allows crafting spell scrolls;
     
  5. Manacalon Rosary allows crafting weapons and armor.
• To be able to use a crafting kit, you will need a character with proper proficiency. Having one of the applicable proficiencies is enough to use the Kit and, even though the tooltip says otherwise, there seems to be no benefit to having more than one.
  
  1. Using Herbalism Kit requires proficiency in Herbalism Kit or Medicine or Arcana;
     
  2. Using Smith’s Tools requires proficiency in Smith’s Tools;
     
  3. Using Poisoner’s Kit requires proficiency in Poisoner’s Kit or Medicine or Nature;
     
  4. Using Scrolls Kit requires proficiency in Scroll Kit or Arcana;
     
  5. Using Manacalon Rosary requires proficiency in Manacalon Rosary or Arcana.
• Gather needed ingredients. Some of them are common and easily found/bought from traders, some are harder to find and unique.
  
• Crafting spell scrolls has one more requirement – a character that will be crafting the scroll also needs to know the respective spell. So, a character needs to have a proficiency in Scroll Kit or Arcana and needs to know Magic Missile spell to craft a Scroll of Magic Missile.

After you have all those elements in place, you can start crafting. Just go to the crafting menu, chose a character that can craft the thing you want, chose a recipe and click “Start crafting”. Crafting will take time (in-game hours, sometimes days) and will consume the ingredients but it can never actually fail, so you don’t have to worry about that.

The actual crafting in Solasta is done by a character making a series of skill checks of certain difficulty. Those are always Intelligence-based checks, independent of what you're crafting. The difficulty of a check is represented by Crafting Difficulty DC (13 on the example image below). The character can make a check (rolls a d20 die and adds his proficiency bonus) once an hour and either succeeds or fails. The character only makes a check if he is not otherwise busy (no cheesy checks while fighting, sleeping, scribing scrolls etc.). A certain amount of successes (8 on the example image below) is required to successfully craft the chosen item. So, characters with higher applicable proficiency bonus will generally craft faster (as they are more likely to have a success on each check) and characters with lower proficiency bonus will craft slower (as they will have more failures and will have to keep rolling for a longer time to accumulate needed number of successes).

This section introduces various merchants that sell crafting ingredients and recipes. It is supposed to help with finding the merchant, if you don't know his location. Further in the guide, I will just refer to them by name.

You will always need higher reputation (relations) with the merchant's faction to buy some of their goods.
