Temple Topper

The SFM version for the Team Fortress 2 weapon, the "Temple Topper".


A Pyro flamethrower themed after old viking wooden church ornaments mixed with some DYI scrap parts.


The metal frame and most of its details were cooked up first, with the wood carving following up afterwards. I wanted to build something that felt roughly like the Pyro assembled it himself, hence why everything feels bolted and zip-tied together.

The gascan is a bisected WWII donut flamethrower backpack. I found that design to be very unique, but it was unwieldy in its donut form, so I had to cut it in half and modify it to fit. It's worth googling the original backpack, as it's quite a unique design.

The original idea was to do some kind of dragon-like carving to form the head and body of the flamethrower, but stonework seemed silly and intricate wood carving too detailed. Eventually, I stumbled upon the head design while looking at various viking churches and their simplistic dragon adornments. Once I saw how well it fitted to the front of the gun, I retroactively changed all the other wood pieces to match the style.

-There is no airblast vent. I did not make one due to time and budget constraints.

-The gas-can has a jiggle bone.

-The trigger has no bone, and as such cannot be pulled.

-The pilot light on the front of the flamethrower can be toggled on and off using the appropriate bodygroup.
