Class description
Destroyers (DD) are a class of smaller to midsize warships, highly specialized into either torpedoboats, for anti-naval and anti-sub warfare, Anti-Air destroyers and Anti-ship destroyers. Usually carrying a comparably large powerplant, they often have LAMS equiped. These ships focus on speed, and are often used for interdicting enemy fleets. Destroyers evolve into cruisers and battlecruisers.

The ship
The Longsword class Destroyer is primarily designed as an anti-submarine platform. It's design philosophy is a through-development of the Shortsword: being a high speed planing hull design that uses its speed as defensive measure against enemy weaponry; especially torpedoes. To achieve this, the vessel uses a long and sleek hull to minimize drag, a set of counter rotating propellors mounted on an azipod and a light weight superstructure. The resulting ship has a top speed of 36 to 39 m/s, which makes it perfect as an interdictor, specialist anti-submarine ship as well as being very capable against slower, lumbering vessels. APS shells, as well as fast missiles pose a real threat however. This ship, as such, is best used against factions such as OW, DWG and/or any submarine of comparable size/cost. AA defence is provided by the two APS guns mounted fore and aft, as well as a VLS missile battery in the central structure.

Being a lightweight vessel, the Longsword will quickly buckle under superior firepower. Its 2m thick alloy plating do not offer much resistance against piercing shells or high volumes of fire. The internal setup is designed for survivability as much as possible however, so she'll not die without a fight.
