Quest Difficulty - Easy to Master (Varies)

QUEST INTRO
Welcome... to The Random Map - Mayhem Edition! This is a quest designed specifically to contain randomized starting conditions, similar to how Freestyle mode works, but on a much more diverse scale. Each time you load it, you'll have a different experience! My goal was to provide a better and more fun freestyle experience with this quest. As such, keep in mind that the difficulty level will depend heavily on the randomization so you may get some really easy quests all the way to some really hard quests. There's no shame in restarting until you find a scenario you want to tackle!

This edition features even MORE randomization than the original, and no longer gives each player the exact same starting conditions.

QUEST FEATURES
Each of these will be randomly chosen each time you start a new game! Message flags at the start will give you some information on AI opponents and victory conditions.

Randomized Feature List:
  • Amount of AI players (from 0 to 6)
  • Amount of enemy monster lairs throughout the map, along with what monsters spawn from them
  • Victory conditions depending on the number of AI players (destroy all monster lairs, last team standing, last palace standing). (NEW: Alternate victory condition for random teams - no longer limited to "even" or "fair" teams!)
  • Starting palace level (1-3) (NEW: Randomized per player!)
  • Initial gold amount (5k-30k) (NEW: Randomized per player!)
  • Number and type of starting buildings (including monster lairs!) (NEW: Randomized amount and type per player!)
  • NEW FEATURE - Wandering Monsters - chance for completely randomized amount and type of monsters to appear at map edges every few days to attack buildings and heroes!
  • NEW FEATURE - Special Events - at the start of the game, 0-3 random special events from a list of 16 (some taken from freestyle mode, some brand new) will be activated for the game! Message flags at the start of the game will let you know which ones are active. See the special events list here.
  • NEW FEATURE - Boss Monsters - at the start of the game, there's a small chance to spawn random boss monster(s) onto the map. They can spawn for your team, for AI players, or as the monster team!

VIKESRULE AI VERSION 3.0
This is the most advanced AI I have ever created for Majesty! Here are some of the updated features:
  • Completely Dynamic Buildpath - the AI now chooses it's building path completely dynamically based on the real restrictions that each player has with regards to building limitations, palace level limitations, etc.
  • All Sovereign Spells Added - the AI can now utilize all sovereign spells that the player uses!
  • Upgrading Buildings - the AI will now upgrade buildings, guilds, and temples just like a human player, including the palace.
  • Updated Costs - costs now reflect actual values a human player would pay (such as discounts from blacksmiths for buildings and libraries for research).
  • All Features From Prior AIs - and of course, everything else that my previous AI players were doing is included!

HOW TO PLAY THIS QUEST
  • Step 1 - click the "Subscribe" button on this mod, under the title picture.
  • Step 2 - if it doesn't automatically download, on your steam menu click "Library -> Downloads", find the "Majesty HD Workshop Content" and download it.
  • Step 3 - Load up Majesty HD and click the "Play Game" option (this will take you to the overworld map that shows all the base game quests)
  • Step 4 - Scroll the map all the way to the very top left where there is a purple star/sun. Click it.
  • Step 5 - This will take you to a list of all your downloaded quests. Select "The Random Map - Mayhem Edition" and click Load Quest.
  • Step 6 - Enjoy!

Hey, I was thinking about 3 new events:

- Peasant rebellion: Hostile peasants spawn (on the monsters' side). Could also be henchmen rebellion, where not only peasants but also other henchmen, such as guards, spawn (on the monsters' side). The hostile peasants could aim for attacking houses, marketplaces, royal gardens, statues, pavilions and the palace (of course they would have to have an attack function for that), while guards would aim for guardhouses and your guards.

- Hedge heroes: Inspired by "Heroes of Ardania", these heroes went rogue! They are sick of governments (and possibly joined the monsters).

- Hooligans: Like in "The Wizard's Curse", hooligans strive through the map and your heroes have to find and capture them. For every hooligan they capture they could be rewarded with 100 gold.

Could some of the lairs randomly contain artifacts (the bell, the book, and the candle etc.)?

@UnderCloud - That's a cool idea, I think that's a bit too much of a change to be able to incorporate into this edition. I've got an idea for another version of this where it chooses specific scenarios, like the one you described. King of the Hill sounds like a good option, the other options I have is a 3v3 team fight, a 7 player free for all, and then a "survive the waves of monsters" for X days type of scenario. Would still be randomized but you won't get a completely random scenario like you do in Mayhem/Regular editions.

What do you think about adding to this quest something like the "king of the hill"? You know, 1 player has from the beginning plenty of gold, guilds, lairs, (maybe even bosses in some of them), Deadwoods protecting the way to the kingdom etc., while the rest of the players are on the other side of map close to each other, but with a big disadvantage, like not much of gold, palace lvl 1 and max of 2 random guilds/lairs. It should be in my opinion 1v3 at least, it would be ofc random on which side you are going to be - a strong individual, or one of the few struggling kingdoms.

@VictoryBell - The statues and royal gardens should help mitigate that. I could look into the reward flag loyalty checks and make it more difficult to attack one's own buildings, but there already is a penalty applied that reduces the chances by default. I also don't want to mess with the default settings *too* much.

As far as AI using sorcerers abodes, they really won't be casting earthquakes regularly until mid to late game as it requires them to have a lot of stored gold. Early game it is less likely that they'll use it. In my testing I haven't seen much of an issue but I can keep an eye on it if more people feel it is happening very early. I would say anything past day 15-20 should be fairly normal usage of it.

How can we deal with heroes attacking own buildings with reward flags? The statues seems to have no effect. Had around 10 built.
Maybe increase delay a bit for AI using sorceress adobe. Two of them casting earthquake almost in a row nullifies your kingdom.

Thanks for creating quality content for this game. Great quest
