In 1955, it was apparent that the Soviet Union lacked a big long-range airliner. Travelling across the huge country took a very long time (even by air) and there was no suitable plane for many international routes. Also, Comrade Khrushchev needed an awesome plane to show off on international meetings :)

For this reason, the Soviet Council of Ministers ordered the development of a long-range airliner, which would become the Tupolev 114. To make the development time as short as possible, many parts of the Tu-95 "Bear" strategic bomber were used, such as the engines, the wings and parts of the landing gear. The Tu-114 was officially presented on the Brussels World Exhibition in 1958. Back then, it held the world records for the largest airliner in the World (until the introduction of the Boeing 747) and for the fastest prop-powered civilian aircraft (which it holds until today!).

General Secretary Nikita Khrushchev used the new plane on his visit to the USA in 1959, where it became a huge sensation: The americans did not have any passenger stairs high enough to reach the Tupolev's door. This was a symbolic victory for the Soviets! (Khrushchev was quite amused about this and exited using a ladder.)

Between 1958 and 1964, 31 aircraft were produced in Kuybyshev, Russia.
They were used very successfully by Aeroflot between 1961 and 1976 on routes between Moscow and Tokio, Vladivostok, Paris, Montreal, New Delhi and even Havana (using extra fuel tanks).
The plane proved to be very reliable, safe, fuel efficient and was just as fast as a modern jetliner.
It was very luxurious featuring a restaurant and sleeping cabins. The comfort was only limited by the enormous noise and vibrations caused by the engines.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't allow contra-rotating props, but I tried to get as close as possible :)
