Arcadia’s Railroad

In 1881, Henry Starke began construction on a narrow-gauge railway to carry logs to early Arcadia, Michigan. In 1893, he began construction of a standard gauge railroad that would eventually reach Copemish 21 miles away at the end of 1896.

In 1906, the Starke Sawmill burns to the ground. Instead of simply rebuilding it, the company replaces the sawmill with a furniture factory. The Arcadia Furniture Company is born. It specialized in medium-priced bedroom furniture.

The 4th and final part of the ABRR Dioramas is the A&BRR's "home", Arcadia. What started as a simple sawmill and an unfortunate fire accident resulted in a small village thriving on making furniture.
