Arcadia & Betsy River Railroad Part 2 – Henry Crossing early 1900s

Arcadia’s Railroad

In 1881, Henry Starke began construction on a narrow-gauge railway to carry logs to early Arcadia, Michigan. In 1893, he began construction of a standard gauge railroad that would eventually reach Copemish 21 miles away.

Henry Crossing

Henry crossing is where three railroads met: the Arcadia & Betsey River Railway from the west, the Pere Marquette running north and south, and the Manistee & North Eastern. First reached in 1895 and named after Henry Starke, this stop was the first place where the Arcadia & Betsy River Railway connected with other railroads and the rest of the world.

In the early 1900s, the train would take fans to and from baseball games between Arcadia and Copemish.

In part 2 of the Arcadia & Betsy River Railroad dioramas, we see Henry Crossing and the critical role that it played as a stop for multiple lines. Unfortunately it no longer exists and there are no pictures of the actual layout of the crossing, so some liberties were taken.

In the first photo we can see the train that would bring fans to and from baseball games in Arcadia & Copemish in the early 1900s. The second is of the station, which I attempted to recreate including the old signal.

To be crtitical of myself this feels rushed, in retrospect I wish I had taken more time on layout, track placement, and proper scale.
