Cooper Richardson started competing in MMA back in 1994, and was initially extremely active on the local circuit, fighting whenever he could. A one dimensional wrestler, he was nothing special and never really got on anyone's radar. Joining Halvorsen's in 1997 proved to be the best thing that could happen to him; he improved by leaps and bounds, and by the time GAMMA signed him in late 2000 he was a much more versatile fighter. He now calls himself "The Phoenix" in reference to his career turnaround.
