Caribbean Airways

Caribbean Airways (until 1976 : International Caribbean Airways) was founded end of 1970 on Barbados as joint venture between Sir Freddie Laker and two local businessmen in cooperation with the local government. Operations were started with flights from Barbados to Luxemburg using a B707 from Laker Airways. London-Gatwick followed shortly in 1971. In 1973 the two businessmen sold their stakes to the government of Barbados, and International Caribbean Airways became the flag carrier of Barbados in 1975.
