Multi-quest, multi-dungeon VANILLA skyrim mod (no DLC required)

The Story

To keep some air of mystery going into it, there isn't a lot to tell. Head northwest of Riverwood (see pictures above for exact location) and you'll come to a new map location called The Graven Deep, and meet a woman nearby named Hilda. She needs your help with something...

**Latest update info: Part 3 beta has been released! Latest version is 2.5.0 and ready for download. Pending player feedback, it will be considered full post-beta and rev bumped to 3.0.0 hopefully by this weekend, but don't let that stop you from downloading and running now! The mod is fully playable and you can pick up where you left off at the end of part 2 if you saved your game before exiting. As always, stay tuned for further updates and leave a comment here or in the forum if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. :)

**Update: Entrance location moved! Unfortunately I put my exterior entrance in a location that causes it to be buried inside the architecture of another mod. See update notes.

**Update: This mod is now available on NexusMods! I'm using that site as a mirror for this one, and is secondary. Steam will always get updates first, and Nexus will only get major updates (Steam is simply easier to keep updated).

NOTE: By popular demand, I've started a spoilers thread that will give the location of hard-to-find items as requests are made. I don't like giving things away but apparantly some items are in places people simply aren't looking. I do encourage you to look a little more diligently, however, because none of the items are placed in impossible-to-reach areas, and I and others have tested to verify that all the items are easily reachable.


The Graven Deep is an ongoing multi-dungeon multi-quest Skyrim mod. Currently 3 out of 4 (planned) parts of the total mod are complete, and will be undergoing additional development as I get more feedback. I have many, many hours (something like 300 hours) put into what will probably feel like not a lot of content as most of the time was spent moving through the learning curve (this is my first dungeon/quest publication) and lots of debugging/cleanup.

Currently I am looking for feedback, but the main part of the first quest is complete and will lead you through the three areas. As of the right now, if you proceed through the teleport door at the end of the third area it will lead you back to the initial starting location outside. Later that same door at the end will take you to the next dungeon area once it is ready.

My thought was making it a "serial" sort of quest/dungeon, having further content come out with each major update. New content will be based in part (or largely, depending on feedback) on user comments. Pretty much the only thing I will take sole ownership of is the content of documents/books/etc and the options and outcomes of quest lines, but all ideas are welcome!

NOTE: any non-vanilla books, notes, journals, other written works are completely original (written by me) so please respect this if you choose use any resources from this mod package: give credit where it's due and please don't copy/plagarize my work. Use assets from this mod with my express consent only :)

NOTE: If you haven't already installed it, you will need download and install the Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE). This is compatible with all non-SKSE mods but is required for this and any other mods that used it for development. The site for downloading is just a single page with some info and download links for both a windows installer and a 7z archive. The installer is small and fast. If you plan on doing any development yourself with it, you'll want to look at the readme which is also linked there, otherwise just run the installer and nothing else is required of you.

Major Update History

v2.5.0: April 3, 2014 Part 3 beta released, fully playable from the beginning through the door at the end of the latest area.

v2.0.0: March 22, 2014 Full release post-beta for complete mod up through and including Part 2.

v1.5.0: March 19, 2014 Part 2 now complete and included with Part 1, such that the part 1 dungeon now leads into Part 2 directly. Note that this is a beta version and there may be (and most likely are) some bugs.

v1.0.0: March 14, 2014 Fully tested with some enemy tweaks/changes, texture stitching, and a few loose ends

@Zell thanks! I made this mod many years ago, I had no idea people were still finding and playing it. I put over 500 hours into developing it, so it's nice to see it still gets downloaded :)

Good play took awhile to complete, no CTD or bugs I found. Thanks to the modder seems Bethesda will be holding everyone at bay another year at least on the next ES or whatever they will call it.
This mod was an enjoyable dungeon - not follower setup you go it alone, well worth a play.

at least you did try and give it a close so we are not trapted with the quest hanging forever. so you could have done much worse.

@silvara thanks for the comments. I realize the 4th part is lacking. I had almost 400 hours of dev time into this mod by the time I got to that part, that I really just wanted to get a placeholder so that the main quest could be finished. I intended to go back and finish the whole thing with more touch-ups and a fully fleshed out 4th part but here we are 3 years later and I still haven't gotten around to it.

something was broken. I went back to a save from before entering and managed to not get the same problem. think I just went to fast the first time and broke something. Fun mod even if the 4th part is bleh. Was very invested in the second and third part but the fourth part just kind of fell flat.

@Silvara did you check the walkthrough? The quest has a completion path, so if you're stuck you just missed something.

Like the mod so far but sad that it just sort of leaves you hangging and now I have a quest stuck in my quest log to reach the inner sanctum which I have run around in several times now trying to figure out how to trigger the next quest point.

@den2408ice: did you read the walkthrough? first and foremost you have to complete the current quest objective (regarding the journals).
