I haven't noticed any problems. It works with mods that edits German Focus Tree as well.
Adding traits and removing them is no problem. Maybe you changed alternate history focuses so that Ashakey remains as a leader if you do those focuses?

I'm fairly certain there were good reasons for me to edit the German focus tree, so I wouldn't be surprised if deleting the tree broke the mod

I made the mod work without focus tree (for fixing compatibility issues with other mods that change Germany's focus tree).
Just delete national_focus folder in your mod and try it. If it works (it will work), update mod in here.
That way you won't need to update mod if Germany focus tree changes in future updates.

Mod works fine. But it's not necessary to change focus tree. After all mod only changes a Leader via an decision.
Germany's focus tree doesn't check if Adolf is leader. So every focus would work as normal.
That includes if focus trees add traits to leaders too. They don't check if a certain leader is in charge.
That's why I don't think it's necessary to change focus tree of Germany.

It's supposed to only change Italy's focus tree file (because the mod is all about giving Italy a focus tree, duh) so I'm not sure what the problem could be? The mod is fairly outdated though so I wouldn't really recommend playing it nowadays

Why it changes focus tree files? It causes compatibility issues with focus tree mods.
