Tensions that have mounted in the last several months as Aland separatists conducted violent demonstrations all over the country have reached a new critical height last week after forces from the Aland Liberation Front have taken military control and pushed out and imprisoned all government officials, law enforcement and military personnel in the Hellanmaa province area in a swiftly, unprovoked and completely unexpected operation that aims to pressure the Finnish Government into conceding independence to the Aland people.
