Situated in a lagoon between northern Italy and the Adriatic Sea, Venice (Venezia) has long been a prominent city in Europe and the Mediterranean region. A center of trade and commerce, the seat of power of a long-lived maritime republic, and now one of the world's most popular tourist destinations.

Venice is most immediately recognizable for its labyrinthine network of canals and waterways. What most people know as Venice, referred to as the 'historical' city, is entirely on water, though the larger municipality extends across the Venetian Lagoon and into the mainland. The historical city is built on an archipelago of 118 islands, linked by over 400 bridges crossing 177 canals.

For most on the archipelago, there are only two ways to travel: on foot, or by boat. The city operates a public transit network of water buses (vaporetti) with at least 20 routes, most travelling either through the Grand Canal, around the main island's perimeter, or to neighboring islands.

This map is a bit more experimental than the others I've made. A recent thread on r/MiniMetro discussed the idea of 'Mini Metro, but water' and it seemed like an interesting challenge.

Features
- Metro, inverted! Ferry passengers by water between the islands of Venice and across the Grand Canal, using up to 10 lines.
- Manage your fleet of water buses, up to 6 per line. Mechanically they function as trams, with no carriages.
- Utilize canals to connect lines where there may not be a path through the Grand Canal or around the island's perimeter. You'll receive an additional canal each week.

Achievements
- Venezia Unica: Deliver 700 passengers in Venice.
- Ferry Queen: Reach week ten in Venice using no more than three boats per line.
- City of Canals: Deliver 1600 passengers in Venice with canals on no more than two lines.
