晾衣架/杆 Clothes Hangings

老式晾衣架／杆，常见于中国上海及周边地区。

由于上海市区内多为高密度住宅楼，老式住宅楼多无阳台，即便有阳台也会被封起来以增加住宅使用面积，最终导致无处晾晒衣物。

然而上海地区终年潮湿，冬天也较为寒冷，晾晒大型被褥及厚重衣物是必行之事。这种巨大的，可以使晾晒物品大面积直接与太阳接触的晾衣架/杆便应运而生，流行起来。

每到艳阳高照之日，家家户户都会伸出竹竿晾晒衣物，色彩斑斓飘荡在楼群之中，被上海人民称之为“万国旗”。

Some old school clothes hangings which can usually be found around old residential blocks in Shanghai and surrounding areas.

Most high density apartments built 1950s to 1990s don't have balconies and even they do have balconies, the owners are more intended to install windows on them to make other use. So there is no place to dry the washings.

Unfortunately Shanghai are wet almost whole year and may get pretty cold in winter. Drying the stuffs under the sun can't be avoided. That's why this kind of huge hangings which can be installed out side a single windows has born and became very popular.

The colorful stuffs will wave in the wind every sunny days. Shanghainese call them "million national flags"
