This guide aims to get you that S+ ranking on the Leon A Scenario with the difficulty set to Hardcore that you desperately crave.

It may take a couple of tries, I suggest doing a dummy run or 2 until you get a general feel about the guide then go for it!

If you have played Resident Evil 2 Remake a couple of times already you may be able to achieve S+ on Hardcore using this guide on your first proper attempt.

Things to Remember Before You Begin...
  • You have 2 hours and 30 minutes to finish the game, with the use of 3 saves MAX!
  • Don’t be afraid of deviating if you want to collect other items, scrounge everything (within reason) and store them in the box.
  • Stockpile all grenades and flashbangs for the tyrant final boss. It will take Ada 1 minute and 30 seconds to save you, using these flashes will delay Tyrant until that time.
  • STUN zombies when possible, this means when you shoot them, preferably in the head, they will stagger back, they cannot grab you during this time so as soon as you see this run past them. This uses fewer bullets and is more consistent than trying to kneecap them. If you think a zombie or enemy might cause you a lot of trouble, just kill them, but don’t do this too often.
  • Save shotgun ammo for bosses and NEST. (Maybe dogs to be safe
  • Don’t be afraid of running around on CAUTION unless you're about to come up against a difficult area.
  • Time pauses during cutscenes and while paused ONLY; being in your inventory menu or solving puzzles cuts into your time so do them quickly!
  • You may use the infinite knife while still getting an S+ rank, all other DLC weapons, however, will stop you getting the S+ rank.
  • If you die, quit to the main menu and load, do not continue OR load from the 'GAME OVER' screen.

Birkin G1 defeated: 30 mins~
Pre-Sewer Gator Save Room: 1 hour~

Spade Key -> William Birkin
GET TO THE RDP!

  • Standard stuff, run in, headshot stun zombie, grab key, stun zombie again, run past to the door and out.
  • Spin around and run towards the RDP building.

David Spade Key

  • Enter the RPD Building. Open the shutter, and crawl through. Ignore the computer.
  • Grab ammo from the press room and first aid spray from the toilets.
  • “Rescue” Elliot from under the shutters.
  • Headshot stun the first zombie and run past him.
  • Run down the corridor, two zombies will emerge from a room.
  • [SAFE] Either de-leg each zombie and run past them. [FAST] Hug the right wall and run past them, you can dodge them like this but it is risky.
  • Get the knife from Marvin - DON’T LOSE THIS KNIFE, if you get grabbed, take the bite for the team.
  • From here until the Spade Key, pick up all the ammo and health you see, pick up the boards near the safe room and quickly patch up the window, do not enter the safe room.
  • Ammo can be found on the bench after the shutters, on the left on a table in the debriefing room, on a body after you jump through the window (turn left), on the dead officer zombie when you go upstairs one flight of stairs and just before the spade key.
  • There’s a zombie on the staircase, headshot stun him and run past. Unlock the combination to the magnum ammo [DCM], grab the ammo and grab the key.
  • SPIN AROUND AND GO BACK DOWNSTAIRS to the safe room, deposit everything but keep your pistol, pistol ammo, spade key and some health.

Please Welcome to the Stage, Claire Bear and the Lock Cutters.

  • From the safe room, go to the West Police Room, (where Leon’s desk is).
  • Open the Safe in the side room. Code: [9 left, 15 right, 7 left] for the hip pouch, and pick up the Matilda Upgrade from Leon’s Desk [Left code: NED/Right code: MRG]
  • Go through the door and head the stairs to your immediate left, wrap around and CAREFULLY enter the Library, there is a zombie waiting to grab you JUST outside the door, so push the door open and step back, try and kill this zombie or headshot stun if you’re feeling confident.
  • Grab the book immediately on the left as you enter the door and turn back into the Main Hall.
  • Head across the upper hallway past the Lion statue and into the 2F Waiting Room.
  • Open the safe in here for another Matilda upgrade. Code: [6 left, 2 left, 11 right]
  • Discard the key. Head left and enter the Art Room with the statue. Pick up the weapons locker card and unlock the gem with the book + arm combo, BUT DON’T PICK UP THE GEM SCEPTER UP! Head on outside the Art Room and turn left.
  • Don't pick up the boards located beside the shutter. It’s a surprise tool that will help us later!
  • Continue to the end of the corridor and through to door to Claire and pick up the lock-cutters.

“WHERE’S THE DETONATOR?!”

  • Head into the door just next to the lock cutters, and straight forward into the East Police Room, grab the fuse and valve QUICKLY and run out before any zombies get too close. We’ll get the other items later.
  • Use the fuse on the shutters right outside and head into the Main Hall.
  • Deposit excess stuff into the box in the hallway. Keep your lock cutters, knife and usual stuff. (Pistol, pistol ammo and a healing item.)
  • Turn left and go through West Hallway again, the hallway with the Officer doing the Pac-Man impression.
  • There are a couple zombies in this hallway with more on the way so move quickly!
  • Stun the zombies and dive into the Debriefing/Operations Room.
  • Use the lock cutters on the door, grab the detonator within, discard the lock cutters.
  • Head out and to the Weapon Locker/Shotgun Room. Enter [109] for pistol ammo, and grab the shotgun.
  • Head out, left around the corner and upstairs into the changing room/showers. Don’t pick up the portable safe yet. Open the locker [CAP] for shotgun ammo, and the locker left most to the portable safe. Grab the gunpowder in the next room down the hall from the locker.
  • RUN through this corridor and into the door on the left just before the licker. He is stuck in this animation so you’re safe.
  • Grab the battery, and the yellow gun powder (combine this with the gunpowder you just picked up previously).
  • WALK out the room and to the left. Kill the licker with a knife, get close and slash repeatedly! (Easier than it sounds and more effective than using the shotgun!) If you’re not confident, blast ‘im. Go and UNLOCK the door afterwards, but do not enter, turn back around and head towards the steam room and back upstairs where you first picked up the Spade Key.

Move medallions, mourn Marvin.

  • When upstairs, where the spade key was, head through the doors to the room with the hanging zombie, make sure you KILL this zombie before using the detonator.
  • Use the detonator, while the detonator is counting down head outside to the Library and wait next to the door until the explosion. This stops the cupboard from falling over and blocking the door.
  • Go through the hole where the bars once were and get the medallion. Code: [FACE, ARROW, SNAKE]
  • A Licker lies in wait once you start heading back, it's attack is scripted, so it will aggro on you immediately. What you do is stop as soon as it appears, and then run when it screams, so it misses its attack and you can escape through to the Library unharmed.
  • Go down the stairs and kill all the zombies with the pistol/shotgun. There should be 3 zombies here or 2 if you killed the lady zombie from before. One sleeping near the door, and the one enjoying a snack near the movable bookshelves.
  • There is also a knife in front of a dead zombie near the stairs.
  • Head into the room directly in front of the stairs and collect the Unicorn Medallion. Code: [FISH/PISCES, SCORPION, URN]
  • Head back into the Library, into the Main Hall and retrieve the final medallion from the Lion Statue. Code: [LION, HERB, BIRD]
  • Say goodbye to Martin. :(

DO NOT SAVE YET! If, however, you're worried about dying on this boss, you can make a save but I wouldn't recommend it.
[BOSS] William Birkin G1
Billy Birkin in the Basement

  • MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A KNIFE, SHOTGUN AND HEALING ITEM(S) WITH YOU. Grab the shotgun ammo in the room, and the grenade on bottom floor of the stairwell.
  • Head backup and prepare to fight Billy Birkin.
  • You can use the trusty knife here, hug his MUTATED arm and slash away, damage is tied to frame rate so the higher your frame rate the better your results will be.
  • If you're not confident with the knife strat, when the fight starts use the shotgun on his head, when the eye appears shoot that instead, when he crouches down to recover get up close and blast away with the shotty.
  • Once he is defeated, grab all the items after the fight and proceed onwards - there is gunpowder and a green herb in the room to your right after climbing the ladder.
  • Drop all items, except for the pistol and some healing, into the box, keep the shotgun if you’re not confident with dodging the dogs coming up soon, this is safer but takes more time.
Crank -> Club Key
Crank It Up

  • Up the ladders, head straight forward, check the gate opening box, follow Ada, grab the crank, go back to the Parking Lot and all the way over to the kennels.
  • Grab the car key from the room on the left, also nip in the back to pick up shotgun shells, go back to the Parking Lot, use the car key and upgrade your Matilda.
  • Back to the kennels and down the right hand corridor, in the room with the 3 dogs in kennels, dispatch the devil doggos.
  • [Optional, but I do this] Enter the morgue, kill the zombie slumped near the door, go to the opposite side of the room and pull out the bed second furthest from the left, grab the key and exit the morgue - Head back to where you found the car key and use the key on the diamond door and DON’T enter it, run back out before the zombies have a munch on you. We do this to make discarding the key easier later - Doing this allows Leon to get an extra Hip Pouch further on down the line to expand his inventory.
  • Use the crank on the door near the morgue, through the door on the right and pick up the electronic part. Head around the corridor to the control panel. Code is [OFF, OFF, ON, ON] or 3 & 4. GET READY TO RUN!

“Hey Peter, nice Cog.”

  • Run as fast as you can to the safe room upstairs through the newly unlocked door. You can dodge the dogs fairly consistently by moving in a zig-zag motion. IF, however, you’re not comfortable with this, dogs only take one shotgun blast to dispatch. Remember that movie, Lassie?
  • Before entering the safe room, just behind the stairs you transcended are some shotgun shells.
  • Pick up and deposit everything in the safe room, only take with you your pistol, pistol ammo, some health, the fuse, the crank and a frag grenade, use the frag on the zombies that are crowded near the shutters to the right of the safe room, a well-aimed nade will dispatch all 3 zombies.
  • Take the knife and use the fuse.
  • Out the door, turn left and up the outside staircase, head back to the Art Room towards the end of this corridor where the gem scepter is and pick it up.
  • Unlock the shutters to the stairwell. Discard crank. Go upstairs and into the storage room. Collect the shotgun ammo and big cog in the storage room, be careful in here, there are a couple of zombies and a lot of hidden alcoves.
  • Welcome to the Club (Key)
  • From the storage room, head back out, to the door across the stairs and jump down the OSHA ladder.
  • Head downstairs, de-leg or kill the 2 zombies that come through the door you’re heading towards, turn the valve handle, and pick the key up.
[SAVE #1]
Take a deep breath, you’ve done well! Hydrate yourself with some water, have a stretch and let’s continue!
Doggo Basement -> Sewer Gator
X GON’ GIVE IT TO YA!
  • Drop everything into the item box. Bring with you: Pistol, pistol ammo, club key, big cog, red gem (from the scepter), electronic part, and a flashbang or 3.
  • Run out, collect the 2 green herbs behind the stairs, beware of the zombies if they haven’t been killed.
  • Turn on the water, collect the pistol ammo on the bench and the red herb inside.
  • Time to face Mr. X, run towards him and stay on the left, he will grab and throw you, after this, you should be able to run past him on the left due to i-Frames.
  • Run right around the corridor, pick up the planks that are leant up against the wall, keep running around and down the stairs. Use the boards on the window down here, run around to the very end and unlock the Club Door.
  • Pick up the Jewellery Box and insert the Red Gem. (Take it out of the scepter if you haven’t already.)
  • Mr. X cannot enter this Interrogation Room so you can breathe.
  • Go back to the Main Hall. If Mr. X breaks through the wall, go via the East Office and pick up any items you skipped earlier when you grabbed the valve handle.
  • Go through the Reception Room to the West Hallway, BE CAREFUL, there is a Licker but it can easily be dealt with, walk in the corridor a little, turn around and RUN back through the door, this will aggro the Licker and upon returning to the West Hallway, it will have vanished!
  • If Mr. X is right behind you JUST RUN FOR THE CLUB DOOR AND HUG THE RIGHT WALL AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! The licker should miss its attack(s).
  • Pick up the bookcase lever and attempt to walk through the Heart Door, obviously, it’s locked, however by jiggling the doorknob you will despawn the zombie in the corridor. [NOTE: Possibly patched, or I didn't do it right, but this didn't work on my latest run.]
  • If Mr. X is in here, and he will be on his way because the lever seems to trigger his appearance, you should be able to run around the shelf in the middle and get out the door. If the despawn trick didn’t work a zombie may be in here too. If you’re worried about getting hit use a flash.
Magnum Dong
  • Run back out the club door and make a sharp turn left and back to the Main Hall.
  • Sprint to the Library. If you’re fast enough you should lose aggro.
  • When in the Library, go through the left door in front of the stairs and into the STARs Office.
  • Plug-in the USB and grab the magnum. Take the USB BACK WITH YOU!
  • Take whatever items in the room, notably the flash and the first aid spray in the bag on the wall.
CLOCK TOWER
  • Turn back into the Library, use the jack on the middle shelf, go right to the left hand side, you can then push all the shelves simultaneously to finish the puzzle.
  • If Mr. X is around, hopefully, you can deal with him using a flash or by using expert juking strats.
  • To do this, slowly walk backwards while facing him, when he suddenly moves, press the sprint button while moving backwards, he should be mid animation and you will be able to run past him, this might take some practice, I haven’t used this tactic myself very often.
  • Go up the ladder, across the bookshelves, through the door, turn right and right into the door at the end of this hallway. Be careful, there are zombies near this door, I would recommend killing the one closest to the door.
  • You are safe in this Clock Tower room, so pause and have a breather.
  • Grab the Large Gunpowder in the backroom and grab the last electronic box, after completing the puzzle.
Clock Tower Puzzle:

Insert the Large Gear into the right-most mechanism. This will drop a set of stairs, allowing you to climb up.

Take the Small Gear from upstairs. Head back down and place this gear in the mechanism just in front of the stairs.

Finally, get the Large Gear from the first mechanism, climb the stairs, and place it in the empty mechanism upstairs.
Ben Drowned
  • Out the clock tower, go forward and turn left, run towards the end of the hallway and unlock the door at the very end. A zombie will stumble into your path in this room, headshot stun him and run past him. Go down the stairs, straight forward, all the way around the corridor, to the outside stairs where you first reunited with Claire got the lock cutters, down the stairs, through the door and immediately into the right side door, down the corridor, turn left before the stairs into the safe room.
  • Store excess items you don’t need, just take the usual stuff and the electronic parts and make sure to take a knife AND a flash/nade. If you have neither of these, good luck kid, you’re going to need it.
  • Go out the safe room and downstairs into the basement, dogs are still in here sadly, remember to run side to side. Run into the parking lot and into the place where Ben met his demise.
  • Use the following picture to solve the electronic part puzzle:

  • Grab the card from Ben and the first aid spray behind the toilet.
  • Prison Break
  • Run out of Ben’s cell to the right and towards the flashing red box on the wall, this will open the door you will then proceed to run through.
  • Mr. X will come thundering down the hallway, try to bait his attack and run past him or get grabbed and use the knife. (Risky)
  • After running past Mr. X, zombies will emerge from the right pathway. Throw your flash/nade and run back to the Parking Lot.
kENDo’s DAUGHTER
  • Put the card in the gate control panel, run to Kendo’s gun shop, grab the grenade, shotgun upgrade and ammo.
  • Run through the sewers to the "Boss"...
[BOSS] Sewer Gator
Alligator

This “boss” is always the same difficulty and is very easy to deal with, but also very easy to die to it too. Basically, keep to the left of the screen wait for the snap, then right wait again, then left wait again, then in the middle.

Once the gator bites onto the explosive pipe, shoot it and it’s goodnight Vienna.

To summarize:
  • Keep left. Gator bites.
  • Keep right. Gator bites.
  • Keep left. Gator bites.
  • Keep in the middle. Gator bites the dust. (After shooting the pipe.)
If you’re unconfident, watch a youtube video before trying this.

Grab the grenade after killing the alligator.
Aid Ada
"Ada Wait!"

This part is a little tricky so I think it best to watch this YouTube video:


Basically, use the EMF gun as you normally would, if you're fast enough through this section you may not ever need to use the pistol, but if you're worried, try to headshot stun zombies in your way. Mr. X should also not cause an issue as if you're fast enough he shouldn't touch you.

Nearly at the save point!

There are some shotgun shells and a knife to pick up before you reach the first G-Adult. (Those big, dumb, pain-in-the-ass sewer globule monsters.) As you get near the G-Adult, hug the left side of that tunnel and let him grab you and use your knife. After this you should have time to hop up on the side and go to the next area.

There is shotgun ammo in the room after the ladder. Open the locker for some precious Magnum Ammo. Code: [SZF]

Drop down.
[SAVE #2]
Hurray! Pat yourself on the back!

Again it's self-care time. Hydrate, stretch, get a snack, watch a cute YouTube video of a seal.

Then it's on to my least favourite part of this game.
Low Sewers -> High NEST
CRANK YOUR HOG, BROTHER!
  • Ditch the pistol and ammo now, take the shotgun and as many flashbangs as you can muster (3 max.) This section requires a lot of inventory space so deposit the non-essentials.
  • Go through the door, grab the T-crank, red herb, run over to the left and open the safe for a shotty upgrade. Code: [2 left, 12 right, 8 left]. Grab the Blue herb just in case you get poisoned.
Kings & Queens
  • Head through the door, headshot the 3 zombies with the shotty.
  • Head left to the Queen/King Plugs, IGNORE THE KEY FOR NOW, go down the ladder. Grab the Green herb and combine all the herbs you have together.
  • Run into the first G-Adult and let it grab you, defend yourself with the flash. Run past him.
  • Another G-Adult will now appear and block your path, run and stay to his left side and you should squeeze past without getting grabbed.
  • Run to the Exit and you should be able to avoid the last G-Adult coming out of the sewer hole.
  • Do the puzzle, grab the flamethrower. I won't explain how to do the puzzle, it's simple enough but if you struggle, YouTube is your friend.
Magnum Dong 2; Electric Boogaloo (Rook plug too!)
  • Go back to the ladder. When running back, a G-Adult near the ladder will charge at you, you can hop up on the ledge just to the right where you picked up those green herbs, once the G-Adult has passed you, hop back down and continue to and up the ladder.
  • Now take the Sewer Key in front of you, go back to the save room, drop the plugs and flamethrower in the item box. Take out 2 flashes/nades and the STARS USB.
  • Go back to where you killed those 3 zombies earlier and open the Sewer gates. There's a yellow gunpowder and nade for the taking.
  • On your way to the Rook piece, a G-adult that spawns from the sewer hole. PROTIP! You can despawn the G-adult by running back towards the King/Queen plugs, stop at where the Sewer Key was and run back, the G-adult should have disappeared. [NOTE: I remember this worked for me before, though I couldn't get it to work in the last run I did.]
  • There are shotgun shells located on your left after you open the door with the crank.
  • Go up the ladder, headshot all the zombies in this area.
  • Unlock both doors with the sewer key and discard.
  • Grab the large gunpowder from the left room and take the secret elevator to get the magnum upgrade parts and the magnum ammo, head back down and to the Rook room.
If you took the Diamond Key from earlier in the run...

You can use the T-Crank upstairs to open the Statue Entrance, take the Diamond Key out the box and run up to Main Hall of the RDP.
Go to the room next to the STARs Office for one Portable Safe, head down the corridor back to the Showers in the room where you used the valve for the other Portable Safe.

Sadly, the locker room is being guarded by two lickers, the safest route to take would be to run back to the Library, downstairs, through the West Office (Spade Key door), kill the two zombies, WALK outside and straight into the locker room. Put the spare keys into the keypad and get yourself that tasty hip pouch and a combat knife.

Head back to the hall, down the statue stairs, down the lift, down to the bottom of the stairwell, down the other lift and out.
  • Take the Rook piece and head for the Sewer Safe Room.
  • Take out the plugs and complete the puzzle.
Solution: [Knight] - [King] [Rook] - [Queen] [Bishop] - [Pawn]

Prepare Thyself

Take the following with you from the box:

  • Shotgun
  • Shotgun Ammo
  • Flamethrower
  • Self-Defence Items
  • [Optional] Magnum if you're low on shotty ammo.

    Next up is good ol' Bill Birkin again.
[BOSS] William Birkin G2
Head down through the newly unlocked door. Grab the Green, Blue and Red Herbs and combine them.

  • Head towards the control panel. Code: [ON, ON, OFF, ON] or [1,2,4]
  • Attempt to leave, Birkin will slam the door in front of you. Rude.
  • Quickly run to the metal shutter and place yourself to the left of the metal shutter and stick to the right side of the big fan. Like this:


  • After 5, hopefully futile, attempts of swiping you, he will bash through the metal shutter, you can just run past him while he's mid-animation.
  • Grab the flash and knife if you have the room. You NEED defensive items, Bill has a one-shot kill grab move.
  • Drop into the arena, run to the end, hit the button ASAP.
  • Drop a flash grenade down, hopefully catching Birkin in the middle of the platform. Take pot shots at the large eye with the shotty.
  • After you pop all his eyes, press the button again and start blasting him with your flamethrower
  • or Magnum.
  • Make sure you're in a safe place before the container swings back, you will be instantly yeeted into the Game Over screen.
  • Do this until Bill is bowed, bent and broken.
  • Collect all the items around, rescue Ada and move towards the lab.
  • Well done, you've made it this far, now only the lab to go which is quite short, but also intense towards the end.
[SAVE #3]
Pause. Hydrate. Take some breaths. Listen to some Runescape music to chill. You've got this.
NEST -> William Birkin's Last Stand
Check the timestamps, this part should take around 30 minutes to complete, you can go without the Hip Pouch here to cut some time off. Let's go!

From this point on, I would opt for making all yellow gunpowder into Magnum ammo. It will help during the last fight.

Level 2 Bracelet GET!
  • Deposit your gear except for the shotgun and bracelet. Spin around towards where you entered the lab and go into the door to the left towards the Cafeteria.
  • Go down the corridor and into the dark canteen, grab the nade to your right, spin around and run forward for the flamer fuel, move towards the ladder and get out of here.
  • Take the gunpowder and knife.
  • BE CAREFUL, there is a zombie JUST outside this door and he is a pain. Open the door and walk backwards, try to bait him into a sweet shotgun serenade. You could also tank the hit with the knife you just got and blast him after.
  • Go right, take the flame regulator from the locker, and the level 2 bracelet.
Level 3 Bracelet GET!
  • Head over to the East Wing, grab your trusty pistol on the way. Head over and deeper into the wing.
  • Be quick in this room, the Ivy Monsters are in a "waking" animation allowing you to run past them, but if they grab you without a defensive item, it's Game Over.
  • Grab the gunpowder and run past them both.
  • Once in the control room, go right to the keypad.

Now, imagine the keys on a keypad:

Input the codes: 3123 and 2067.

  • Examine the apparatus near the door you didn't come out from, take the cartridge. Head out and left, and left again into the Drug Room, grab any items you like.
  • On the drug machine, input the following:
  • Code: 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1
  • When you exit the room, turn left, an Ivy Monster will be blocking your path, shoot a bulb to stun the beast and run past it, head down the ladder, there is a large gunpowder in here you should take.
  • In the next room along, decap all the sleeping zombies with the shotty. There should be 4 in total.
  • Run towards the door leading to the staircase. When the Licker appears KEEP RUNNING, stay on the left you should dodge its attack. Go through the door.
  • Dispatch all 3 zombies in the stairwell and upper room with your shotty, pick all items up, and pick up the oscillator device. Go back down the stairs to the Lickers.
  • WALK to the terminal directly ahead where you put those zombies down.
  • Fiddle the knobs until it's just right. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  • Do a 180° and walk to the freezer. (To the left of the door heading to the staircase.)
  • If you're fast enough, the Licker’s wouldn’t have attacked you. But if they're a little too close for comfort, flash them and bolt to the door.
  • Freeze the herbicide.
  • WALK back out, turn right towards where you just were and left, then right again, in this room there is a knife, fuel and yellow gunpowder. Grab them. Deposit your shotgun and replace it with your newly upgraded Flamer.
  • Go up the ladder, run to the right, if there are any Ivy Monsters blocking your path. Try and take out a bulb with your pistol and run. Deploy the frozen herbicide using the same apparatus you received the empty cartridge from.
  • Now, this bit is important, walk around to the Level 4 Bracelet and BURN ALL IVY MONSTERS near you on the way there. Make sure they are dead, this place can be a run killer if one is left alive.

RETURN OF THE X!
  • Grab the bracelet, make a dash all the way back to the connecting bridges and to the West Wing. Don't go the ladder way, just go back through where you used the frozen herbicide. Any Ivy Monsters that try to block your path, pop a bulb and dash past them.
  • Check the time, if you're under the 2 hour mark, go back to the North Wing and grab the extra hip pouch with your newly found oscillator. It's where you got the Level 2 Bracelet and the Flamer upgrade.
  • Head back to the West Wing, collect all items along the way to the G-virus.

Time to put Billy Birkin down for good.

Equipment check time, take with you:
  • Shotgun
  • Flamethrower
  • Magnum
  • Heals
  • Defensive Items
  • As much ammo for the above you can muster.
[BOSS] William Birkin G3
    Bye Bye Big Billy Birkin
  • As soon as the fight starts, Billy will be in a taunting animation. Try to pop all 3 eyes on him during this time. These are located on his left leg, right shoulder, and back. Opt to use the shotgun if you have the ammo for it, the Magnum is best kept for Tyrant.
  • When all the eyes are popped, he will fall down, flame him as much as possible.
  • Repeat this until he's cooked.
  • He will often de-aggro from you and attempt to throw stuff at you, use this time to shoot the eye on his back with the Magnum.
  • He has a one hit kill attack, defensive items should be in your inventory at all times during this fight.
  • There are a few items around here, take them all with you as you leave.
Nearly There!
GTFO

  • On your way to the final encounter, there will be Ivy Monsters and Mr. X. Use your remaining Flamer ammo on the Ivy Monsters if you like, or pop their bulbs with something else.
  • Get down the ladder, sadly Mr. X is hot on your tail, circle back and into the next room.
"THE ULTIMATE WEAPON... TYRANT!"
  • Due to the spark plugs you need to carry, your inventory space is reduced by 2 slots. Bad times.

    Bring the following, if you have them:
    • Magnum
    • All the Magnum Ammo you can muster
    • The fully upgraded Matilda is better than the Flamer in this battle, the flamer is too slow. Take as much pistol ammo possible.
    • All the defensive items you have
    • Fill the rest of the space with heals.
[BOSS] Tyrant
Go ALL out on the Tyrant, I'd recommend watching a YouTube vid at this point, but I'll give you some tips.

The length of the Tyrant battle changes, not due to how much damage is dealt OR how much time is spent, but a combination of the two.


  • Do as much damage as possible as quickly as possible, preferably with the Magnum.
  • When he charges up his one-hit kill move, Leon will remark with "Oh no!" or something. He also may not make a remark at all, when the Tyrant digs his claw into the floor, quickly flash bang or shoot the heart.
  • When he does this, either shoot the Tyrant's heart, or a much easier method, throw a flashbang.
  • Keep shooting until Ada throws down the Rocket Launcher.
  • You know what to do...
  • Sprint to the finish. Zombies may get in your way, kill in the most satisfying way possible. The rocket launcher.

"Change save #1 to the statue room right before the G1 boss fight. For more casual players, G1 is a huge learning curve, ESPECIALLY on hardcore, and is probably going to be the cause of death a lot more than Mr. X will ever be. Plus, you won't have to deal with the first RPD run-through, which is also likely the hardest part of the run for casual players aside from the bottom level of the sewers."

Thanks a lot for the guide. However, for the last Tyrant fight, I would advise to go only with Magnum in case of charging. I died on first try due to late flashbang, while the Magnum shots were always stopping him.

Nice guide! Was playing just for achievement but was using this guide, had a bit problem with last phase Birkin so i had to run it like 3 times but still, thanks for your guide!

I agree with 99% percent of this guide, it's very well made. One thing I'd personally do differently, though, is to change save #1 to the statue room right before the G1 boss fight. For more casual players, G1 is a huge learning curve, ESPECIALLY on hardcore, and is probably going to be the cause of death a lot more than Mr. X will ever be. Plus, you won't have to deal with the first RPD run-through, which is also likely the hardest part of the run for casual players aside from the bottom level of the sewers.

@Reisei Yes, but if you do it on Hardcore, you don't need to go back and do the others, it unlocks them all IIRC.

@The Test Candidate, my bad, only by completing S+ on Hardcore do you get access to the more powerful infinite weapons such as the infinite rocket launcher and minigun.
