In 2002, Kane won the World Tag Team titles with The Hurricane and the Intercontinental Championship on is own before entering into a feud with Triple H over the World Heavyweight Title.

Triple H infamously accused Kane of necrophilia before defeating the Big Red Machine and unifying the two belts. He received a few more opportunities for the Big Gold Belt - the inaugural Elimination Chamber match and in another singles match against Triple H. After losing the latter, Kane was forced to unmask.

He turned heel after unmasking and became mentally unstable. He brutally attacked Jim Ross, setting the announcer on fire, and used a car battery on Shane McMahon during a match.

Kane entered into a storyline with Lita in 2004, pursuing the diva romantically despite being turned down. A few weeks later, Lita announced she was pregnant and Kane claimed to be the father, kicking off a feud between Kane and Matt Hardy, Lita's boyfriend. Kane defeated Hardy in a match for Lita's hand in marriage. The pregnancy ended in a miscarriage after a collision between Lita, Kane, and Snitsky.

Kane began teaming up with The Big Show in 2005 before breaking up. Kane moved in and out of the world title pictures for the next several years, capturing the ECW Title in 2008 and the World Heavyweight Title in 2010.
