Works with EU4 1.30.*+ (STILL working 12.2023) | Achievement incompatible | Changes checksum due to being in trees.bmp


This mod aims to restore the terrain mapmode that was destroyed long ago in an update I can't even recall.

Europa Universalis IV was at one point updated so that all trees on the map were placed ONLY where the terrain type matched. As in, a province can only be ALL trees, or none at all.

This resulted in some places like France and England, or most notably places like Ruthenia and the Caucasus being completely stripped of trees. In addition, the fine effort and work that went into tree placement that resulted in nice gradients along rivers and climate was gone.

This mod aims to replace that, and makes terrain map mode less of an eyesore. It restores the Tree placement back to where it once was many years ago.

I mean it's rather a quite simple mod, it's highly compatible because it literally replaces only a single file (or two? I can't remember):

The tree map (trees.bmp)

And *maybe* the rivers map and terrain brushes(?)

These things are literally never changed during updates, or if they are they're overwritten by this mod. The fundamental shape of the world map never changes so as a result the mod always works.

I've always felt that terrain mapmode got uglier since I started playing but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. This is why, thanks for bringing back old terrain :)

This is interesting to see because I have been around since the beginning of Europa Universalis IV, and this change was made by Wiz because so many people complained about combat in provinces with trees that do not have woods or forest as a terrain; and it was considered a popular change at the time. However, I felt it was an arbitrary fix.

Yes, there's no reason it shouldn't. It changes only one file ingame.
