where are they recruited from? they are available on custom battle but not showing up on the campaign barracks.

cleomenes III reforms made thorax chainmail units for sparta. so its not to far. but didnt use roman armor though :P

No they are Romanized in the sense that that Sparta took the ideas of the Roman military and used them for their own military.
