The game pace should not change, you choose the pace. If you want a really slow game, there is an ultra marathon mod you can subscribe to. However the lost world plateau has resources under the fallout, which takes more time to cultivate.

There is also a Mod for even larger maps, but it slows down the game.

If you get the Civ V SDK there is a tool to make maps. When I make the map I click on the Huge box which sets the size. I also learned stuff by watching You Tube videos on Civ V map editing. There is also the Civ Fanatics website.

For some reason subscribed maps sometimes do not end up in the Maps Folder. You may need to search your C drive or equivalent for LostWorld. Then cut & paste into the Maps folder. Unfortunately Mods & Maps often do not populate the correct folders.
