@Neo About Lincoln being a racist, and I quote, “I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races[...]" Lincoln delivered this speech in Charleston in 1858. Maybe he was a racist, but at least he wasn't a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slaver. Also, he might have said that to gain more support from the democrats who were, in fact, racist, and he didn't really mean it, but I have no proof for that hypothesis and I don't fully believe in it myself. One of the most racist presidents in U.S. History, though? Wild claim when there were literal slavers in charge prior. Anti-racism and anti-slavery are connected, but not necessarily so. Lincoln never owned slaves, and always remarked, publicly and privately, that slavery was a terrible insitution that should be either abolished or let die down. It wasn't anti-south sentiment, it was pro-freedom sentiment. Hope you change.

@Neo While it is true that most Confederate soldiers were volunteers, their forces also had a great number of conscripts. The number of volunteers in the United States and the Confederacy were actually pretty close, altough not proportionally so. No, both sides did not have colored regiments. The rumour that the Confederacy had colored regiments was actually spread by Frederick Douglass, of all people, used as a point to instate colored regiments in the Union Army, the only side to have official non-"white" regiments. Most in the confederacy thougth that such regiments would be against their very cause.

@Neo I appreciate the effort of fact-checking history, but you might wanna do that for yourself as well. While it is true that many northeners owned slaves prior to the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, including some esteemed generals sepecially before the war, It is undeniable that there was a strong anti-slavery, or even abolitionist sentiment in the north, unlike in the south. Fact: a great majority of the southern population was pro-slavery, many of which would go on to become soldiers on the American Civil War. Most soldiers on the Confederate Army were pro slavery.

@LinkTheSilencer Might want to brush up on your history, and I mean real history not the abbreviated version they teach in schools. Both sides owned slaves, and pretty much none of any of the men that fought except (for the officers) had anything to do with slavery. Most men in the Confederate Army volunteered... while most men in the Union Army were conscripts. Oh and there were "colored" regiments on both sides just fyi. You might also want to read the entirety of the so-called "Emancipation Proclamation", as what it really says and what people think it meant are two entirely different things. In point of fact Lincoln was probably one of the most racist president we've ever had, barring LBJ. Freeing slaves was a purely anti-South punitary political move for Lincoln, said as much himself
