Downside is it does mean you need a second wall behind your embrasures otherwise wild animals will wander through your defenses and into your base.
Seriously, an embrasure is only some centimeters wide and high, it's literally smaller than windows, by definition they are not passable. But you want to make passable things like this : https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d2/Embrasure.chateau.Bonaguil.2.png !
Sorry for the aggression but sometimes balance should go to hell if it implies some things that are illogical!

it does not touch how the embrasures link. I am decently sure that what you screencapped is the default behavior of Jaxxa's original ED-Embrasures.
Is this something you think could be fixed or is it just a unavoidable limitation of the code?
