Functional Jetpack Nerfing

描述
A rework of the "Jetpack Nerfing" MOD.

This mod modify the "Characters.sbc" files and change the following definitions from the "Default Astronaut":

ForceMagnitude to 540 from 3200
SlowdownFactor to 1 from 5
MinPowerConsumption to 0.0000011111111111111111111111111111 from 0.000000001
MaxPowerConsumption to 0.0006 from 0.0001
ConsumptionFactorPerG to 135 from 250
EffectivenessAtMinInfluence to 1 from 0.67
EffectivenessAtMaxInfluence to 0 from 1

This makes the jetpack useless on planetary bodies with an atmosphere or with moderate gravity but still functional on non atmospheric moons up to 0.25g. They are still very useful in space but slower. No longer can you rely on them as your main mean of transportation!

This won't change jetpack properties from custom skin mods, just for the default male and female astronaut.

Note that 0.25g was set as the maximum jetpack operating gravity force: Thrusting upward while pushing slightly forward should be enough to allow hovering under these conditions.


More numbers:

Using only the suit internal H2 reserve tank (i.e. no H2 refill tank in inventory):

0g operation at full throttle, ~5 minutes of autonomy
0.25g static hovering operation, ~90 seconds of autonomy
0.25g operation at full throttle, ~60 seconds of autonomy

On planetary bodies with no atmosphere:

Operation below 0.25g, not tested but should scale accordingly.
Operation above 0.25g, hovering not possible, forward movement on ground possible. Autonomy scaled accordingly.

On planetary bodies with an atmosphere, operation is not possible.

Zero-g acceleration performance: 0m/s to 110m/s in ~21 seconds. Same for deceleration.

Note: 0.25g is SE gravity force on the moon.

Doesn't seem to work anymore? Causes a crash in loading screen when added. :(

Hello BatLeE,

The values can be edited if you are willing to do a bit of fiddling. You need to locate a file named "characters.sbc" in the folder where Steam store mods for Space Engineers.

In that file, locate BOTH lines (one for the male astronaut and one for the female astronaut ) that starts with "EffectivenessAtMaxInfluence" and set the value to a number close to 1 (or possibly above 1). This will improve the performance of the jet pack in atmospheric worlds. You may also need to adjust the value of "ForceMagnitude" to allow for hovering on normal gravity worlds. Start with a value of 1000 perhaps and see how it performs.

I no longer play Space Engineers and it has been a while since I created this mod so I can only point you in the right direction. You will need to test it out by yourself... See the description above for the exact values I used and go from there.

Is there a way to reduce the nerf of the jetpack? A value we can tweak maybe, to make it not completely useless in atmosphere, just enough to propel a few meters high. Thanks

so im trying to find the config that gets generated in the save file or was it just the mod config itself that can be changed?

I appreciate the info and timely response. I'm new to Space Engineers and just trying to get into the swing of things. I found a mod compilation for best mods to run for 2023? Author has your mod and Spacewalk stacked together. Trying to avoid compatibility issues lol.

From what I have seen they are not compatible.

Survival Reborn: Spacewalk provide its own modified 'Characters.sbc' file which is also the one edited by this mod.
But, SR:S also uses scripts to alter more than just base .sbc files so my final analysis is: probably not or at least conflicts will arise on what parameters both mod tweaks.
