Walter Mondale

描述
Walter "Fritz" Mondale served as as a Senator from Minnesota from 1964 to 1976 and then was Vice President from 1977 to 1981, and is regarded as one of the most powerful VPs in U.S. history. He ran for president against Ronald Reagan in 1984. Mondale controversially supported raising taxes to deal with a growing federal deficit during his campaign, famously saying "Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He wont tell you. I just did." Many people panned Mondale for saying this, and it was one of the main reasons he lost the 1984 election in a historically lopsided landslide. However, Mondale would eventually be proven right, as Reagan and his successor, George H.W. Bush, would be forced to raise taxes several times.
