A cruiser is a very vague class of ship. The REC defined a cruiser as a ship that can be the center of fleets and support itself and up to 6 fighters. The Polaris does all of this perfectly. The Polaris class of ships are commonly called "Carrier Cruisers" dues to their large fighter capacity, and extensive range. The Polaris is also well armed, including one of the best point defense systems to date. It also has a mars anti-ship turret on the dorsal side. It is unofficially the REC's response to the Starhammer class cruiser being fielded by LKF, and many are speculating it was developed due to the rising tensions between the two.
