CM Punk came to the WWE with major indy cred and became popular with the WWE crowd quickly on the ECW brand.

The Straight Edge Superstar won two Money in the Bank matches and cashed in both to with World titles.

He reached his highest level of popularity in 2011 after dropping his famous "pipebomb" promo on John Cena and going on to capture the WWE Title in his hometown of Chicago before (kayfabe) leaving the company. Punk stayed in the WWE Title picture for the remainder of his first WWE run and once held the belt for over a year.

Punk left WWE in early 2014 on poor terms amidst health concerns and growing frustrations. He began training fulltime in MMA and fought twice in UFC, falling in both contests.

CM Punk made his return to pro wrestling in August 2021, signing with AEW. He won the AEW World Championship twice, but his AEW run was marred by incidents involving physical confrontations after All Out 2022 and prior to his match at All In 2023, leading to a suspension for the former and his firing for the latter.

A few months later, the unthinkable happened when CM Punk made his return to the WWE at the end of Survivor Series 2023.
