On December 17, 1944, the Kampfgruppe Peiper reached the crossroads of Baugnez where they encountered a small convoy of American artillery. Without heavy weapons and after a few fights they surrendered, the Germans gathered 120 men in a nearby field and for an unknown reason opened fire making 84 victims. Today a monument and a museum commemorate the memory of these men.
