Back in the day the thought of using 4 diesel locomotives for the power of one steam engine (for freight trains) was a bit loony to Union Pacific. Naturally Union Pacific looked for something bigger. GE called them up and said "hey we're making jet engines for planes maybe we could put that in a train also turbines can eat up Bunker C oil which is dirt cheap and literally considered trash." Union Pacific later had to retire these units when someone figured out how to make plastic out of Bunker C, which drove the price up. A lot.

A unit has backup Diesel motor and cab. B-unit has Turbine, and there's a Fuel Tender on the back.
