Hey guys! Welcome to my newest project I've released, Bereft: Definitive Edition. This addon includes a remastered version of the original Bereft map and 3 experimental maps; mu_bereft_night, mu_bereft_rain and mu_bereft_greyscale.

Scenario

This map is by far my biggest project and one that includes the most fun. With this map, I've tried to have playtested at every major update. PredatorHD has helped me a lot when it comes to the visual style and some parts of the map.

With this map, I've deliberately made it as interactive as possible. For example Dustmotes on contrasty lighting, Radios with music, Interactive TV, Working furnaces, and etcetera. This map also features some teleports in the form of wardrobes, I was inspired by the film 'Narnia' and I wanted to reference in this map.

There are also a lot of parkour elements on the map. In graveyard, you can parkour yourself onto the roof. Behind the garage, you can climb onto a dumpster which gives you the possibility to go on the greenhouse or the roof of the house.

One last feature this map has is non-solid walls. What this means is, some walls may look solid but they're not. For example, one of the walls around the 1st-floor bathroom, or the window in the kitchen. If you try to jump into these walls, you can go through them at your heart's content.

FAQ

Q:Why did you decide to re-release this classic?
A:I've always wanted to come back to this map but the map file was a mess, so I decided to rebuild it from scratch, fixing some of the optimization drops.

Q:Why should I take the time to play on these maps?
A:These maps have been carefully hand-crafted by me and each one has their own unique features.

Q:Does this map have loot?
A:The base remastered 'mu_bereft' does include loot, the others sadly don't (I don't want to get too technical...)

Q:Is this map optimized well?
A:Confusingly still, no. I've made massive changes to the optimization to the maps and they still run bad on old hardware. Although, the worst it would go for me is to 40 FPS, it shouldn't go below that.

Q:Can I use bots on this map?
A:Yes, you can. These maps have their own navigation files so you can play around with NPCs and Murder Bots.

Q:What is 'mu_bereft_greyscale'?
A:Greyscale is the first playable version of the Bereft maps that was ever made, it was made on September 11th and I kept it for nostalgia reasons. I decided to include it here because it actually plays pretty good but it lacks some of the details and clutter, but at the end of the day it does include the bare layout.

Requirements

This map only requires Counter-Strike: Source, but if you don't feel like spending 19,99€ 8,19€, you can download the maps, textures, and models Pastebin Link Here[pastebin.com].

Bug Reports

If you have a glitch that has to do with the map, Not with the game engine. PLEASE share it on this Discussion or in the Discussions Tab.

Recommendations

I would recommend you playing this map on the Sandbox and Murder game modes. I would recommend the player count being from 3 to 8 players.

This map has been inspired by Butcher's Den, Hotel, Safehouse, Inferno, and Militia.

the one on cs_italy doesn’t match the Piano music I hear on Bereft

When I played around this map, it was some type of Piano Music playing, in the attic I think, whats the name of it?

i am currently working on a office complex map set in a highscraper. i've previously tried to make russian-styled, but i wasn't happy with the results.

also, base assets from hl2 are kinda unflattering compared to most content from css, so i will continue to make maps that require css content.
